Omega Speedmaster under a microscope - Slow motion close-ups...

Post by kev017 »

Thought this worth sharing. This guy has some serious equipment and showed various parts of the watch both up close and at a slower frame rate to show what is going on.

Omega Speedmaster under a microscope - Slow motion close-ups...

That is remarkable, thanks so much for sharing. The equipment that guy is using! What on earth would the cost of that set up be. Struggling to get my head round 10,000 frames per second. Nice to see that he could incorporate a fish tank in his uber scientific demonstration.

I find this sort of geekery absolutely fascinating, I love the way"precision" machinery wobbles about 😂

I saw that. Amazing computer control to maintain the lens at a constant distance to the watch.

Iain’s Law: Any discussion on the Christopher Ward forum, irrespective of the thread title or subject matter, will eventually lead to someone mentioning the Bel Canto if the thread continues for long enough.

Fascinating… I’m not sure what was more interesting, his gear/setup or the range of motion shown by the magnification and frame rate. Thanks for sharing.

Utterly captivating on a number of levels: the mechanical functioning of the watch, the "real purpose" of such kit - camera and lens doesn't seem to cover it and what do you say to your Omega AD?

Just got round to watching this and it’s fascinating. Particularly how the chronograph engages; I’d never really thought of how they engaged before.

Presumably the photographic equipment costs thousands and then he uses an upturned aquarium as the table

As an Apollo 8 owner I’m now going to spend the day squinting really hard at the back of it…

I learnt two things today:

1. An iPhone camera is not as good as thousands of pounds’ worth of photographic video equipment; and
2. Nevertheless it’s quite fascinating to use the zoom to look at the back of one’s watch.
