Has the 1861 caliber speedy recently jumped from £2880 to £3340 ?

Yes it has I'm afraid. It has a new reference (311.30.42.30.01.005) and comes with a box, a couple of extra straps and tool , a loupe and a paperweight thingy. That's what costs the extra £500.

I've managed to get a new old ref 3570.50 and maybe know of a couple of others knocking around. I wanted the watch not all the other paraphernalia.

PM me if you're interested.

Oh, it's exactly the same watch, that hasn't changed at all, and it's a beauty.

^^ Spot on DJP31, plus they also ungraded the bracelet from pin/collar system to screws. Personally I prefer the pin/collar system as screws can occasionally back out.

If you want a new one, I'd act fast. Even the pre-owned versions have elevated in price now that the new display box version (with the changes DPJ31 and I have noted) is out.

Great news if you're an owner (used price potentially catches up at some point)

Bad news if you were planning to acquire one!

Yup as said, same watch, extra goodies and a big box. The bracelet is the one that has been on the far more expensive Co-axial speedmaster. I guess they needed an excuse not to have a watch under £3k but still hike the price without changing a legendary watch.

I'm sure the marketing people at Omega know what they are doing, but how many purchasers want all the ancillary stuff?

The only time I ever see it is in these pictures. The real one is stuck in a cupboard somewhere.

Here is the new Moonwatch Presentation Box.....not quite as classy and stylish as Downers LE box.

Image

Borrowed Internet Photo from yorktime.com

MSRP increased by $700 with this box and new bracelet that added screws versus pin/collar system. The actual watch head and movement remains unchanged. I believe this is also the same box for the Speedmaster Moonwatch Sapphire sandwich, which also increased MSRP by $700.

Whilst a nice kit, IMO, the value equation for the extra $700 is not there.

Well you've just seen it 3 times in 5 minutes. I wish someone would teach people how to use the quote button.

Anyone see what I did there? Selective quoting.
