I can't imagine any reason for putting a watch in the dishwasher, Hans is right, the water is not the problem (yet). The extremes of temperature is what will cause the seals to breakdown, then the water wil become a problem. I would consider yourself fortunate that you have gotton away with this so far.

Hans wrote:jaydog, in all seriousness: big temperature-differences are really not good for a mechanical watch.
And the soap in a dishwasher is extreme agressive, It's a sort of lye (I hope that's the right word).
Why do you think the dishes will be clean without brushing them?
And why should you be washing your hands after putting the soap in?
Maybe you don't see problems with your watch after washing it in the dishwasher, but it can't be the right treatment for your watch.
Re: OMEGA SEAMASTER VS THE DISHWASHER!
Guy, Guys. Calm yourselves down now. Like i keep saying. IT'S ONLY A WATCH!!! It works for me and in all the years i've had it and been cleaning it in the dishwasher it has never needed new seals. If it gets to the point that it does i shall shake the water out of it and send it to be fixed.
I can't believe how animated some of you are getting. Get them watches in the dishwasher and if they get water logged you will wish you bought a better watch, if not you will be have a very clean zesty one.
Now off you pop and check your movements!!

I wonder how the new T3 will fare, i shall road test it and report my findings to you, cos it would seem all yours are tucked up in there boxes having never seen the light of day.
Just out of curiosity, do any of you ware your watches or do you just take them out to photograph them. I have this image that your sitting in a restaurant and when you need to know the time you call the speaking clock because your too worried to put a watch on.
I really like watches but they need to be used and thats the whole point. you may mock me for what i do but as a builder my watch gets very grimey very fast, covered in cement (pick yourself up you who just fainted) paint, pva and adhesive, for me the easiest way to clean it is to dishwash it. i'm sorry if that dont sit right with all of you but to me a watch is funtional and needs to do a job, and it needs to do it well. thats as far as my interest in them goes. Mine does everything i ask of it and more and a little wash alongside the dishes has done it no harm. Thats all i have to say really.
Any one got the time by the way? nah, try 123 on your phone

Re: OMEGA SEAMASTER VS THE DISHWASHER!
I don't wash mine in the dishwasher, that might take too long with all the watches I have acquired the last couple years. What I do is tape them all to the roof of my car and drive through a car wash. That way, I can clean all 147 watches simultaneously, plus, with the hot wax, they shine like the buggers! This works pretty well as long as my mother-in-law doesn't kick any off accidentally while she is getting her weekly shower.
Seriously though, I don't think it is a good idea. Again, I would echo temperature change being a big concern. My worry would be that the change in temperature might cause condensation to form on the inside of the crystal and then it run down into the movement. Like when you go into a really well-air conditioned building and all the windows have condensation on them. I actually had condensation form once on the inside of my orange monster. I am not sure what I did to cause it, but it couldn't have been good for it.
Also, many dishwashing detergents (designed for use in a dishwasher) are abrasive. I could see that possibly scratching the case or crystal.
Lastly, if you look at the case of your watch closely, I am pretty sure you will not see the phrase "dishwasher safe" anywhere on it.
But heck, what do I care. It's your lemony fresh watch, right?

Re: OMEGA SEAMASTER VS THE DISHWASHER!
Yes. Thats the first sensible thing i've heard, it is my watch.
The Detergents dont sratch glass so certainly aren't going to scratch crystal, it also does no harm to the stainless steel.
As for condensation forming, this can only happen if moisture can get in.
I obviously don't put it on a boil wash so i'm not fussed about the temprature change. It can deal quite happily with the change simply because it was designed to do so
