Ollech & Wajs M4

Post by Terminator 2 »

Despite my earlier criticism in another thread of RLT regarding my serious dislike of their website well despite it all they might just get me as a customer yet. It just shows you that even as a retailer if you get it wrong you might still get lucky lol. You see I have been thinking about getting either a Grovana or a Debaufre as a little treat for my birthday next month but something at RLT has now very much caught my eye.

I noticed these watches a while ago but as I was not looking for a Sub style watch at the time I never picked up on what it might be. I was just going to add this post on to the other thread but this watch might just deserve a little thread all of its own. Enough of the waffling though. I bring you the

Ollech & Wajs M4

Image

Movement: Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic 25 jewel movement
Luminance: SuperLuminova. Arabic numerals, hour makers and hands
Dial: Hour markers with Arabic 13-24 on the inner
TrackDate: Quickset date at 3 O'clock Case: Stainless Steel case
Crown: Screw downCase
Back: Screw in steelBezel: Divers bezel insert on stainless steel bezel
Crystal: Mineral crystal with magnifier
Power Reserve: ~40 hours
Dimensions: 39.5mm excluding crown, 42.5mm including
Water Resistant: 200m
Strap: Stainless steel oyster bracelet with fliplock AND additional choice of Black, Grey, Olive, Army Green or Navy Blue NATO Military Strap

Now this seems to be a serious bit of kit for not a lot of money. £149 or $275 for any watch containing an ETA 2824-2 is a bargain. The cheapest C5 is £25 more and we all think CWL is wonderful. Also Ollech & Wajs are no new kid on the block and do have at least a bit of history. Their watches were apparently huge hits with soldiers during the Vietnam war. There also appears that there was once a link with Brietling.

The only down side I can see with this M4 watch against the Grovana or the Debaufre is the fact that the O&W ir rated at 200m whearas the other 2 are 300m. Well seeing as a bath is about as wet as I get I do not expect this to be an issue hehe. I need to do some serious thinking now because I could have 2 of those M4's for the price of the other two. Decisions decisions.

mmmmmm

I like it, but then I'm a big fan of red accents. So this is £149? Pretty good deal even though no sapphire and 200m. A Bill Yao has roughly the same specs, and they run near £300. Plus, this is a good base watch if you wanted to upgrade to sapphire or a more custom dial.

Yeah its a bargain isnt it. As I say it is £25 cheaper than the cheapest C5.

Some of them have Sapphire though El Tiempo. It depends on the model number you go for ie M1, M2, M4 etc. I liked the M4 because it has the date magnifier. Am I not right in saying though you cannot have a date magnifier with sapphire though ??? I could be wrong.

Yep its a mighty fine bargain if you ask me. My birthday is a month away but I am soooooo tempted to get it now lol. That would leave £150 to get something else hehe.

Here are the different models at RLT

Just dont let the OUT OF STOCK get under your skin like it did with me lmao.

Great value for money and you can be sure these will be well built. You don't get crappy watches being used by the military. Nice to see a bit of history with the brand as well. I wonder what the link with Breitling was?

After reading terminators post I had a sniff around Ollech and Wajs, and found this:

I'm considering for my birthday next month, sapphire crystal and an ETA 2824-2, only $A335!.
Also found a local dealer, only news of the C7 is likely to stop me getting this one...

Thanks for the link Uncle Bill; some interesting background there and you can see the Breitling connection on the aviation chronos. Might be tempted by something from O&W this year some time... :)
