Nth Watches Shutting Down...

Post by Thunder1 »

Not a good thing for many a collector...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To my many customers, friends, and fans of NTH,

Due to global economic conditions and increased business challenges, it is with deep regret that I announce NTH has ceased watch production, and will be ending business operations within the next few months.

I am of course very sorry to disappoint NTH customers and fans. Unfortunately, this decision was unavoidable.

We will continue to provide warranty support to customers who contact us before we cease operations.

Effective immediately, we will be selling our stock of accessories and replacement parts, including items never offered for sale, through the NTH website, at discounted prices. These parts include:

Replacement steel watch cases for our 40mm Subs, 2K1 Subs, and the DevilRay.
20mm and 22mm bracelets & straps
20mm and 18mm clasps
Replacement bezel inserts for our 40mm Subs, 2K1 Subs, and the DevilRay.
Replacement crystals for our 40mm Subs, 2K1 Subs, and the DevilRay.
Spare bracelet links for our 40mm Subs, 2K1 Subs, and the DevilRay.
Leather Travel Cases
UV lume torches

As we will be ceasing operations, and these items are being sold at a discount, all sales will be final, and no returns accepted.

Thank you all, for your years of supporting my business.

Yours truly,

Chris Vail

Goes to show how competitive the sub $1000 market really is. By all accounts NTH watches sold fairly well.

I was thinking along similar lines, Rich. I don’t know their history because the products don’t attract me, but I don’t imagine they go back all that far. It did seem that there were a lot of companies starting up in the mid 2010s producing affordable watches, particularly dive watches.

I have thought for sometime that that particular market is becoming quite saturated with new brands and kickstarters. I guess they’re all eating one another, so to speak.

NTH started as Lew & Huey in 2012 largely on a WUS following. That pivoted in 2016 to NTH under an umbrella company Janis Trading.

I think you hit the nail on the head though. NTH was largely a one trick pony and the original designs didn't really catch on. The Devil Ray was interesting but being based on a Doxa you have a niche of a niche thing going on. The other original designs were on the large size at 44mm.

^^^^ I was about to post something similar, Rich.

I had an L&H Phantom for a while quite some years ago. Sold it to Dean @EddieTheBeast who, as far as I know, still has it.

My photo from January 2018

Objectively, I felt the L&H watches had a unique element and style to them, whereas the NTH models were too generic / homage in style.

Oh man, that's not good news at all.

I came here via Lew & Huey which later morphed into NTH Trading. There was a time when Chris Vail and I exchanged emails regularly and he was very encouraging to me. That said, my last direct purchase was in 2017 with two, maybe three later purchases through the UK outlet Watchgecko or from the pre-owned marketplace.

There is some discounted stock available here: https://www.watchgecko.com/search?optio ... -ascending

I was never a fan of the Devil Ray though undeniably it has been popular and the NTH Subs range were just smaller at 40mm diameter than I wanted at the time: you could say the C60 range won me over. The earlier L&H Orthos range were much more my cup of earl grey diameter-wise but the cases were a bit slab sided and again CW designs appealed to me more.

Might I scoop a 40mm NTH Sub now for £450 at Watchgecko? Sadly not. That said I'm sorry that the brand will no longer exist. Chris Vail I wish you well.
