This is my latest and last (for a long time at least) home made watch. I didn’t really intend to make this, it sort of happened by accident. I had an NH35 movement with a damaged quick set date that “mysteriously” failed to work after I’d swapped a date wheel from white to black. Therefore I decided it might be a good idea to just use it in something without a date.
I went for something simple with an explorer style dial and hands and found a half decent bronze case made of the same bronze alloy CW uses. The case was £45 and with dial and hands about £20 so I couldn’t really go wrong.
But I went wrong.
The case doesn’t accept a chapter ring so despite being only 39mm doesn’t accept the usual 28.5mm after market dials, you need a bigger 33.5mm one instead. However these aren’t as popular for the usual Seiko mods so there are limited options available, I couldn’t find that didn’t have a date window.
Therefore I had to buy a new dial, hands, and NH35 movement with a working date wheel and I’ve just finished putting it all together. It’s too close to my IWC to get much wear but for less than £100 all in it can stay as a cheap pub watch.
Here it is in all its glory, the patina has already started as it’s been waiting for all the other parts to arrive.
And finally here’s a photo of the home build trio. The bronze pilot watch, the orange dive watch, and the one with the dial hand painted by my daughter.
All I’ve got to do now is figure out what to do with that movement with the dodgy date wheel……
