It could not be fitted in smaller case. Actually it was to be installed in custom made 42 mm before but there were some issues with size of dial so it went into this larger case. Dial is original enamel and to fit it into smaller case it was just too large.

Yes, I've seen marriage watches go into 48-50mm cases, so 44 is actually pretty good. It's less usual to see one in a 42, that would have been almost perfect, but the 44 looks really quite good on your wrist, so it doesn't seem as though it matters in this instance.

There is a case in 42 mm that can take size of Unitas 6497/98. But it is PITA to install.
