Bought the purple Sailor Sapporo earlier for my gf and I prefer the Pelikan even though it has a steel nib while the Sailor has a gold nib. My appreciation for German goods keeps going up while that for Japanese goods keeps going down (same as for watches).

Wearing a different watch, but I see we have similar taste where writing implements are concerned...

(I've since changed the picture to one that doesn't look like it was taken at the bottom of the sea!) :)

Also, It is remarkable how little Pelikans have changed from the 1940s until now:

Thanks! The large pen is about four years old but the smaller pen dates to around 1955 (I was a decade off in the earlier post. Oops!). Still works too. That ink is great by the way. I use it in a couple of my pens and it looks very nice on paper (the one bottle I have is a sort of turquoise blue...very similar to your shoes in the above photo!). :)

Here is a better pic of my shoe (from the internet). Its a similar shade but I doubt its too close. The whole range of Pilot Iroshizuku inks is superb. My gf likes very fine (or extra fine) nibs but I like medium or broader ones, since the fine ones always scratch a lot against the paper.
