New Steiny

Post by redd »

Nine business days after ordering it, my new Steinhart Marine Chronometer arrived at the office yesterday....... while I was in London for meetings

So this morning I arrived at work and didn't bother logging on, because this was waiting for me:

I'm not a great one for reviews, but suffice to say I'm very happy with the watch. First impressions were good, but no more, simply because my expectations were so high. But minute by minute I liked it more and more - in terms of pure looks this just hits the spot for me.

Two negatives

1. The navyish leather strap does not go well with the petrol blue face and will have to be confined to the box
2. When taking the pictures (and especially the one below) I noticed the bezel slightly out of allignment by about the width of the chrono second hand i.e. not much. On one level perfectly ok, but once in my head (and for the price) not good enough. Its on its way back to Germany to be corrected and I can't wait to get it back and start hunting for straps.

My last two watches (this and a C6) have both gone back for the same reason

Here's the best shot of the bezel allignment issue:

When I get it back I'll take more pictures with my better camera and not in crappy office lighting.

Cracking watch pal. Shame you had to send it back but you are quite right. They go for some serious money so you should expect top quality.

Very nice redd. Perhaps a slight crank with a pipe wrench would do the trick. :(

Seriously...I hope it returns soon in A1 shape.

I like it but it's too big for me. I am downsizing all my bigger watches.

Thanks for the positive comments. While I wait.... what straps would you recommend for it?

I'm not sure I can stretch to another £80 right now, but if I could I would love a Toshi Saddle leather:

Great stuff Tony. Shame about the bezel alignment but it is worth getting it sorted. Enjoy it when it returns!

I've got a Toshi Saddle strap on my Magrette. To my mind, absolutely worth the money if you can stretch to it. It's gradually ageing quite nicely and getting a lovely vintage look to it.
