Re: New releases from Omega
Thanks for the link, the photos on there reminded me why I sold my 60th anniversary 57. Those polished hands need the light to stand out, in low light they tended to disappear. The vintage lume made it worse but the white looks a little better. These two photos from the link show the issue I had. It looks a lot worse on the black dial than the blue as well.Bahnstormer_vRS wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 6:35 pm Meanwhile, a hands-on review of the Speedmaster 57 by A Blog to Watch.
Iain’s Law: Any discussion on the Christopher Ward forum, irrespective of the thread title or subject matter, will eventually lead to someone mentioning the Bel Canto if the thread continues for long enough.

Re: New releases from Omega
I'm liking both the black and blue dialled 57's, the bracelet looks to be a big improvement over the last Omega bracelet I have tried, the cheap looking rattly ones on the SMP 300M.
The AT's look interesting and a good option for the smaller wristed amongst us, yes the new colour palette is following the herd a bit, but if that's what the public want. The prices for the AT £5,420, like the 57, are not cheap.
The PO Ultra Deep is an almost comical size and 6000 metres, definitely a case of "because we can". I do like the look and colourway of the black dial version, if only it was in a vastly smaller size.

legendary
I hate the word. It's not legendary. It really exists.

Other words to invoke ire...
Homage - special honour or respect shown - Not "it's a copy of" or looks like a Rolex to my fevered imagination
Icon/iconic - painting used as an item of veneration (there is a more modern meaning but this is the one I think of)

Re: New releases from Omega
In Kykkos monastery in Cyprus there is an icon of the Virgin Mary which is so revered, and feared (it is said to strike anyone who sees it blind), that it is never uncovered. Since apparently no one has seen it since an Alexandrian Patriarch beheld it in 1669 its powers could be said to be legendary, and it would be extremely difficult to create an artistic homage to it.albionphoto wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 8:20 pm I'm trying not to turn into a grumpier, less erudite version of AVO... About as hard to see in real life as a steel Rolex in a dealer's window then? And its power to influence the faithful is about the same.

^^^ Oh very good! I just wanted to find a way to use all three adjectives in a correct and appropriate context that did not mention watches once.

Re: New releases from Omega
I did compliment you upon your erudition. I might aspire to it but I doubt I shall climb to those lofty heights. What can you expect from someone who stopped studying Latin when they were 10.

Most people haven’t STARTED to study Latin by the age of 10! I assume you missed out on all the filthy poetry by Ovid and Catullus, then?

Re: New releases from Omega
Latin for the first two years of middle school and then switched to something much easier; French.
I caught up with Ovid at a much later date. My father-in-law is an ancient Greek. Does he count? I will admit to being very partial to medieval English history though. My review of Herodotus' Histories did include the phrase "far too fond of a list". I will remain an uncultured scientist in the eyes of many.

I like the 57 colours - red probably would be my pick. The purple 36 AT would be great for the wife.
