So - no-watches-until-the-FLE couldn’t last in the face of this Bulova release. The joy per dollar is massive (and I found an amazing deal from an eBay seller in Spain)** For the price you get glorious 70s revival vibes (my old bedroom carpet was that colour

I follow a modern architecture forum and everything I see is cream, white, grey. Monowhite surfaces for miles. I really want to get back to some warmth, some colour, some comfort in the world. I’ve been thinking about some colour in my watch box for a while. Well here it is. The dial is gorgeous. It’s not orange which might be a narrow escape - Orange and brown in conjunction was shout-out 70s. But they’re tricky colours, tricky to match, and can easily slide into hideousness

The watch makes me do nostalgia, I guess, for my dad’s cheap gold hand wind (make unremembered). This watch is such a close remake of the original 1973 jetstar and Bulova have done a great job. This might be homage in its best sense?? Other colours are available - it was my gut that chose this one

** I mentioned price and joy/dollar ratio not to be crass, but it is part of the deal here that’s making me smile. I love love love my ‘expensive’ (to me) watches. I love the quality which gives my eyes such joy. ‘Quality is something you can’t define but you know it when you see it’ kind of thing. But wearing expensive watches - at least somewhere in the back of my mind - makes me draw up the balance of whether I can justify ‘excess’ spending. It doesn’t stop me enjoying my watches, but when I can enjoy a watch this much and not have that value equation going on in my head.... well -I think they just call it fun
