That’s a very lovely watch! Congratulations.

I’m curious as to what a “true” GMT is, that the Trident GMT isn’t?

Often, a watch is referred to as a “true GMT” when the main hour hand can be set independently from the minute hand - the opposite of how the Trident (and the majority of other GMT’s) works.

This allows the main hour hand to track local time (and be adjusted when the user changes time zones) without stopping the watch.

I would describe this functionality as a GMT for travellers, whereas the Trident is fine for monitoring another time zone.

^^ true GMT

Need to be careful with terminology.

Rolex/Tudor (and one or two others) GMT movements allow you to advance your local hour hand without upsetting your minutes/seconds/GMT home time. Nice function if you’re travelling extensively and hopping time zones. However, it’s an expensive ornament.

ETA GMT’s such as the Trident are much simpler, allowing you to display two time zones, but require you to reset your time completely when you set it up. Consequently, if you moving through multiple time zones it’s more fussy. But it’s much more cost effective in comparison.
