Movement advice required (Stand down panic over)

Post by gregstar »

Hi all,

Novice to the different movement world. I've been looking at seven Friday's and the advice I got was the miyota are pretty cheap and not worth £800+

Well this afternoon i was mooching through my watch manuals and noticed this in my magrette kaitiaki manual
Image

I've checked the adverts on magrette official site and magrette EU and both say ETA 2824-2 which I understand is inside my trident COSC and pro.

Can anyone tell me if this looks like an ETA or a miyota

Image

If it is indeed a miyota then it shouldn't be in the watch? If you found a miyota instead of an ETA would you be annoyed?

Thanks.
One day I'll get found out.

if you were expecting an ETA and got a miyota, i'd be upset.

that said, a lot of the £1200+ cost was for the hand etching. there are a number of watches out there in the £500-700 range with miyota 9015s. it's a solid movement. i don't think you necessarily have an overpay in value.

*but*

like i said, if they advertised (and are still advertising) ETA 2824 and gave you miyota, you have an ax to grind here.

Well, a Miyota 9015 has 24 jewels and your rotor says 25 jewels, which is what an ETA 2824-2 has, so I would suspect that it's just the paperwork that is wrong.

Would I pay £1200 quid for a stunning watch knowing it came with a miyota movement. - yes I would, no problem.

Would I be **** if said watch was advertised with an eta and came with the miyota. - absolutely, and would be on to the manufacturer immediately with a request for answers. Simply on principle, rather than because there is anything wrong with the miyota.

I cannot identify the movement from the picture, however, judging by the 24 jewels swiss made written on the rotor, I assume that the handbook is wrong. - welshlad got there first!

The rotor also says "Swiss Made" so it can't be a Miyota.

I have three watches with display backs. For what it is worth it looks like the ETA in my CW and nothing like the Miyotas in either my Android or Junkers.
CW-C8 MKI
Steinhart Nav B-Chrono II
Citizen -"Orca" and 1976 chrono.
Seiko-"Spork", "Stargate II", "Blumo", 009 mod.
Zeno 300m army diver
Revue Thommen Airspeed chrono
Junkers Bauhaus.

Before I pull pin I think I may know what's going on. Most of their other watches like the tiki come with a miyota. It looks like a pre printed manual as the model is handwritten.

good catch. so the paperwork is incorrect. i'd send them an email and ask them if they can send you updated paperwork with the correct movement on it. just to make sure you have everything as it should be.

i'm glad this seems to be something simple. dion/magrette have always come across as a really solid company with good CS, this would be a pretty big mistake. but paperwork is easy to fix.

Paperwork!

I got a letter from CW congratulating me on my new automatic Slimline, with an instruction book telling me how to unscrew the crown.

I did have a CWL paper error when I bought my trident COSC.
Came with 194/500 on everything but my watch. The watch said 094/500. Saint wera soon sorted it.

That's an ETA 2824 or clone, not a Miyota.

ETA movements have a cloud symbol with ETA inside and the model of the movement that can be seen through a display back.
