Re: Montblanc Full Calendar
Though having said that I've noticed the 4 is IIII, rather than IV? Any particular reason, I'm wondering??

I understand that this is fairly common on watch faces. Supposedly gives better visual balance. Does not really matter either way to me.MGH wrote:Though having said that I've noticed the 4 is IIII, rather than IV? Any particular reason, I'm wondering??

Re: Montblanc Full Calendar
That, I have to say, looks wonderful! I'm so pleased that you went for the Mont Blanc in the end, it suits you perfectly and you have a wonderful watch to treasure. Congratulations!

Re: Montblanc Full Calendar
I have to say it looks great, and I was wrong to dismiss it in the other thread.

Re: Montblanc Full Calendar
As Asqwerth says - it's common on watches and clocks - the theory being that IIII balances VIII better than IV would ... OR ... the Romans used IIII because IV is too close to the two first letters of their chief god IVPITIR (Jupiter) ...OR... they used IIII but it's nothing to do with the gods... OR ... it doesn't matter it's just watch designers being contrary.MGH wrote:Though having said that I've noticed the 4 is IIII, rather than IV? Any particular reason, I'm wondering??
Perhaps the most famous clock in the world, the Great Westminster Clock, uses IV.
Nice choice Asqwerth

Any thread that mentions "full calendar" or "moon-phase" will always have my attention!
It's a fascinating watch, absolutely lovely, and quite stunning. Enjoy.

That is a very classy watch, and I bet the photos don't do it justice.
