Moeris Antique Pocket Watch

Post by carissimmo »

I wonder if someone is able to provide me with some information or resourses concerning Moeris antique pocket watches. My father just gave me a Moeris pocket watch that was given to him by my grandfather. My grandfather, in turn, was given the watch in 1936 by a friend of his as a reward for my grandfather having saved his life during a very polictically turbulent time in Cuba. The watch itself is gold and platinum on a gold and platinum fob with cloisonee enamal work on the back in the pattern of three flowers ( they could be either roses, or lotuses) on a navy background. The crystal is in mint condition. The watch face is white with black numbers and a smaller, second hand dial. The watch mechanism hasn't worked in years, but that is because my father never ventured to have it fixed. And that is where I come in. I would like to find a reputable watchmaker that could fix this watch. I would also like to know its value. At the time that the watch was purchased in 1936, it cost $200.00 (probably because of the gold and platinum). Any information would be welcome. Thanks!

Welcome to the "Asylum"

It would be helpful if you coud post some pictures of the watch and movement.

I don't mind doing some research if you can post them up and have a little patience.

You might also have some better luck here.....

Hi there Carissimmo...welcome to the forum. I'm sure Kip will come up with something more in depth but i can tell you a couple of things about Moeris. :klugscheisser:
Moeris is an old Swiss brand founded by Fritz Moeri in St.Imier,Switzerland in 1893 with "Moeri's PAtent", a non-magnetic lever movement with exchangable parts. Moeris developed into mainly specialising in stop watches and chronographs although they obviously did produce other timepieces. They actually provided ebauches to Seiko and Citizen from around the mid 1950's untill they were aquired by Tissot. Apparently there is still a "Moeris Dept" within Tissot so it might not be a bad idea to contact them and ask if they can help you out.

Hope this is of some use and i look forward to seeing some photos!

Cheers
