I would be computing a moving average over the past few days, rather than include the early readings, which seem to have settled down to about -3 or -4 sec/day ...

Yeah, I think when the measurement period is over, I'll do some splits to get an average over the early period vs. the late one. Until Day 14 though, I'll keep going to get an overall total. :)

Day 9 reading is....

-50

Average is -5.55

Interesting to see how this is improving.

Have the conditions of the test changed (wearing it more/less, winding it more/less, changing the overnight resting position....)?

In the past I have had trouble believing the 'watches settle down over time' theory, as, from an engineering/logic point of view, it doesn't appear to make too much sense...

Yet we had to "run in" new cars years ago but now we don't have to.

Is it due to the oils being new and therefore need to be mixed to settle down? I cannot believe the metal gears change much.

Yet I am intrigued by the fact that you can alter a watch's accuracy by leaving it crown up/down/sideways etc overnight.

I think you can attribute it primarily to how much I am wearing it. When the test first started, I was putting it into a winder at 650 tpd and just wearing it from the hours that I was home after work, so that basically meant that I was wearing it 5 to 6 hours a day and it was in the winder the other 18 to 19 hours. On day 3, I popped the crown and gave it a full wind and around day 7, I started to wear it all day and evening, only putting it into the winder at night.

So clearly, this isn't the most rigorous and scientific test as I changed the parameters pretty aggressively once I saw that the watch was not performing well under the original ones. Given that the new parameters are probably closer to what someone would define as "typical use," I'm okay with accepting the most recent readings as reality.

I've been wearing mine constantly for 4 days, I even kept it on at night for the first night, which I don't usually do as I was interested to see how accurately it kept time. I can genuinely say that it is about 2 seconds fast, and that might have been me setting it clumsily with my sausage fingers.
