Five currently are worth it to me.....if finances got pinched, I could definitely survive nicely with any one of the five and would likely keep the least expensive luxury watch of the lot.
Small collection of timepieces that I enjoy

Yes it boils down to the emotional connection you have with that item. If a luxury item brings positive emotions it is worth it. If it brings negative thoughts or doubts then its not, ie how much is that service, omg a link cost the same as a vintage seiko, i dropped it and now that ceramic bezel replacement cost a fortune. I magnetized it etc etc.Wis wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 8:21 pmEven a bad painting is art. For me going from alot of "luxury watches" to a couple, it wasnt worth it. Im not even sure i enjoyed it or got it, there was an addiction there funded by boredom but then im just as happy at the lower end. Might be harder to say these things without sampling the other side first though, lust works its part. Anyhow..They dont work any better and after a time of ownership the quality of the product didnt give me any more of a thrill than a cheap watch, the differences in quality now are much much smaller than decades ago. Its not like buying a luxury house or car or bike, you dont get more comfort or more of a rush of greater performance when you use it or more reliabilty; once the shine has worn off, marks appear or an updated model comes out it just sits there doing its job at the end of the day, losing its luster....becoming a part of your furniture. I always enjoyed finding a bargain and flipping it for a small profit over losing money on a quality item. Something about the underdog doing what the big boys gush about has always pleases me but everyones different, ive owned luxury watches but never really kept them. You literally gain no better experience of life buying a luxury watch unless it makes you happier inside but if you keep buying them and all you have is a collection of luxury are they even a luxury any more?
I miss all the great things that may never be.

I agree @Dancematt, it’s about emotion. Appreciation and enjoyment.
