I do like the Speedbird - do they / did they do one with a leather strap?

I think it originally came with a riveted pilot leather strap, but you could always just buy an aftermarket leather.

Great thanks - I've now got a fair few alternatives to look into - and quite possibly a lot of saving up to do!

I have the IWC Spitfire silver Dial 42mm on a tan croco strap, it is 9 years old. I find it hard to read the date on it these days, but i will never flip it. I love the IWC pilot chrono's, but now they are up to 43mm I'd never buy another. They're just too big for my own personal taste. i also have a Speedbird III and it is a great watch but not a viable alternative to the spitfire chrono. A good compromise might be the Archimede Classic chrono with silver dial.

Cheers,
Jack.

At the risk of going against the grain here, my advice is ...... save up and get the IWC.

So often on here, I see people talking about this watch they love, that watch they love but could never afford it. Yet you see them purchase multiple units of cheaper watches. Add it all up, and invariably it comes close to the cost of the one they truly wanted in the first place.

Dont try to scratch the itch, it does not work. All it does is take you financially further away from the watch you truly want, each time you "scratch"

If you want the IWC, get the IWC.

I tend to agree with this. I've spent money on many watches that have been compromises a nd I've always regretted not following my heart and gettingthe one I really want. I've flipped loads over the years and ultimately lost money. Yes - this is good advice - get the one you really want.

Cheers,
Jack.

Thanks guys - that probably is sound advice - and something I should have already learnt as I've experienced the same thing with guitars.

I'll start saving
