Invicta
Invicta
I know these have bad press but are they really that bad? The reason I ask is a young lady at work wants me to find her a divers style quartz watch for about £80 no bigger than 38mm and blue. I know it's only £80ish but it's a lot to her so don't want to recommend something that is rubbish, had a look on the net and only came up with Invicta any other ideas? Or do you really need to spend a lot more to get anything half decent?
Thanks in advance

Well a friend of mine has one and he went swimming in the sea and the bezel fell off!

Re: Invicta
I have two Invicta divers. Can be bought for under £80 via eBay. Both are 40mm though and have Miyota automatic movements. Cheap and cheerful but far from rubbish. Keep accurate time, well made, solid feel. Alot of snobbery towards the brand, probably because much of their range is quite gawdy and blingey, but the Sub homages offer good value.

Re: Invicta
Sure certain watch forum types are snobby about invicta, but unless seiko, citizen or orient make something in size and budget in blue then I doubt you'll find anything more suitable (or forum respected) for the price.
Half decent means different things to different people buy if she wants to tell the time with a watch that fits her criteria I really can't see any problems with a Quartz invicta.
The Breil heritage range might be worth a look if they have a midsize range?

Re: Invicta
Orient's another possibility. Seiko 5s (autos) are within price range although for a diver you are looking towards the £100+ mark. There'sa blue one in sales corner, albeit bigger than 38mm. Lorus, Pulsar, Citizen may have diver types for the £80 upper limit.

Agreed. I was going to suggest Orient too.MadJam250 wrote:Orient's another possibility. Seiko 5s (autos) are within price range although for a diver you are looking towards the £100+ mark. I definitely agree with gaudy description, after seeing a couple the divers in the grail/fail thread!

Re: Invicta
I worked for almost a year in KL and there was a stall in one of the malls that sold Invicta and some obscure Russian brands. I had a look at them a d handled a couple and they felt cheap tbh. I have handled and owned many inexpensive watches that are very good quality (like the Seiko black monster and the Speedbird III which I still have) but these were not of that standard. I think you can do better with your money.
Cheers,
Jack.

Re: Invicta
Wow. The thread Kip has highlighted there has some very damning comments.
Again, I can't find much to fault with mine at all. It's cheap, yes, financially, but it's actually far from it. Solid bracelet links, weighty, tough. Each to their own.

Re: Invicta
I had one with a seiko nh35 movement in and I thought it was great. The branding is a bit heavy...

Vostok amphibians are hugely better for less money. About £60 for a real diver's watch. Auto though, not quartz (with OEM movements to boot.)

Re: Invicta
Lots of references to automatics in this thread. Let's remember the OP's request for quartz.
How about something from Swatch?
