:)

it does seem to generate a lot of heated discussion.

as i said above, i don't worry about it. i'll wear any diver that's safely depth tested to dive with. i don't worry about "banging" it underwater because, well, i dive very casually and do my best not to bang into anything in general. good dive etiquette. and i don't do real wreck diving or cave diving, where i might have to worry about it more than casual reef diving with an occasional swim through.

again, to each their own. the only thing i'd ever worry about is that the crown is screwed down properly. but, in the 4+ years i've been collecting, i can't ever remember not screwing it down, even just to walk around above the water, so it's not a huge deal for me.

fwiw, that also means i don't need to bring multiple watches and leave a valuable watch back in a hotel or dive resort room (even if it does have a safe). it's with me the whole time.

for the original subject, i don't own any watches that are homages to other watches i own.

I think this clearly inspired...

Note, inspired, not homage... The following one however is as much homage as inspiration:

It also has bezel edge and crown elements from the later version PO as well.

I have been diving or swimming in all my watch's except the c6 lido. I don't believe in pandering them either as I think a watch should be worn. Washing up killed my tuna thou so cation is advised with domestic tasks

The only watch I have that I own the inspiration and an homage. The Casio will be on its way out as soon as I get around to listing some watches. I bought it not as a Speedy homage, but rather as a decent beater watch for work. It rarely gets worn now, as the Helgray Silverstone has basically replaced it in the rotation.

More of the journey than current pairings, but I thought it would be interesting all the same.

What's the last one you posted? Seems like that's a homage to the rolex explorer not the other way round?

Is the rxw a mod of the real thing or a homage?

That's the fella, Ken Sato. Having owned a ZEX, PRS-25 and Explorer I can whole heartedly recommend the RXW. No other homage comes as close to the Explorer.

For anyone wanting something as close as possible to the 36mm Explorer this is the one. Unfortunately I've been wearing a 40mm for the last year and don't wear anything smaller, so this is going up on the block.

I thought most who are interested in watches buy them because they are decent well made robust watches from a brand with history and some iconic designs and they hold their value better than most brands. :)

Now if they were wearing Blancpain FF they would have been showing off.

I would say an $8,000 watch is a show-off watch when compared to the normal Casios you see. Would you happily risk $8,000 being rolled over by an air tank? Yeah, there are clearly a lot of buyers (and there IS the lemming effect after all) but that's still a lot of money to most people, me included. I wouldn't spend anything like that on a watch myself, certainly not to risk it on a dive boat, but each to their own and if you've got that kind of money I guess it doesn't matter.
Isn't it how a watch is worn, rather than when, that dictates if it's a "show off watch".

Much the same as anything else with a perceived high value, it's how you carry it that counts.
