40 came and went a week ago. I treated myself to one of these:

I was after a chrono. I'm not sure, in your case, what type of look you're after: chrono, dressy, diver?

Fantastic response, thank you and keep the ideas and recommendations coming.

It was much easier when I had my sights set on one watch, now my eye has wandered there are just so many wonderful watches out there. The J&S watches look lovely, thanks village and Ball watches are ones I'd been looking at, but I can't tell if I find the faces too busy. The Stowa is stunning - I've been looking at the Chronograph 1938.

The more I look at that Bell & Ross Vintage 123 though….

Well I have a couple of weeks to go…will keep you posted.

thanks,
gloves

Go straight to PO XL, do not pass GO, do not collect £200

Not just GB, the same relates to many other countries, I am not so good in history, but it seems to leave only Switzerland - a reason why Swiss watches are so popular?
FYI: My avatar presents the original Zinaida, it's ten years since she's gone, still miss her.

I was after a chrono...
Sorry anits - missed this - I think that's an interesting choice for a special watch - a good size, good quality, good price but a 'look' that doesn't appeal to everyone... and what matters is that it looks good to you (and I agree with you - I just love the simplicity). To me that makes it an outstanding choice.

If you spend a lot of time fighting someone, the peace, understanding and relationship that develops afterwards is all the more special.
You can ask brothers who hated each other as children, you can ask 1914 Germany how surprised they were by the strength of the entente cordiale after centuries of England vs. France. Why are so many countries (previously subjugated by the British Empire) happy to be part of the Commonwealth?

...so, conversely...

Why the heck do we put up with the Swiss, who never fought anyone*?

*not strictly true.

Thanks Loddonite. I can't fault the watch. That said, it's not been getting much wrist time. May have to make an effort, before it finds itself in "flipping corner"...

Every story needs an ending and in the end I changed my mind and went for the Bell & Ross Vintage 126. Gorgeous watch when it came through and very happy….but I kept looking at the PO XL, which wasn't a good sign.

Buying both was not an option and so I sadly returned the Bell & Ross and finally landed a PO Xl. Which has brought a smile to my face everyday so far.

I thought I would share a picture with you all. It really feels like such a substantial watch and has a versatile and classic look on the wrist (IMHO), love it and very happy. Thanks for your thoughts and help.
