No wonder you were selling off a few CWLs at the weekend, but hey, you're the accountant around here so you ought to be able to make the finances work.
Now the serious bit. . .
.
.
.
. . . . congratulations on your number coming up.
A classic and, as others have said TO BE WORN (but perhaps not to the gym).

An absolute classic. So glad you went for the more aesthetically pleasing no date version. I've considered one myself on so many occasions. Enjoy!

^^^ Thanks all for the comments. It's clear I need to wear this as much as possible so I'll take that message from your collective wisdom. It was a bit of an impulsive purchase but then I'm prone to these decisions from time to time ...however not regretting it.

Congrats - sometimes it just happens that way but kudos to you for having the cajones to just do it.

Congratulations indeed.
Although this brand holds no appeal for me I can appreciate your delight at your new acquisition and your wholly understandable reluctance to treat this as your every day, all-occasions watch but just go for it.
As to the suggestion that this was an impulse purchase I fail to see how putting your name down on a list and waiting weeks merits "impulse"!
Enjoy!

Fantastic purchase you can not go wrong with a classic Submariner and as others have said in 10 years it will be worth just as much as you paid for it, wear it and enjoy it.

Pete, it was really an impulse to go into the AD last month and put my name on the waiting list. The loose justification to my wife was that it is our silver wedding anniversary in August next year. I thought the waiting list was long and knew I wasn't committing to buy....but here I am a few weeks later having bought it, and it's still a month to our 24th anniversarytikkathree wrote:Congratulations indeed.

Re: I went for it...did I do the right thing?!
Congratulations, it’s a handsome acquisition. The so-called ‘no date’ version is also the original & best-looking, to my mind.
Aside from perhaps the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, I’m of the opinion that the Submariner offers a near un-paralleled blend of iconic good looks, illustrious history, wearing versatility, accuracy of time-keeping, and robust performance. There’s hardly any situation that it cannot handle, or will not be appropriate for.
They aren’t cheap, but given it will easily outlast you (and probably also the person you bequeath it to), appreciate in value long-term, and it’s a fine piece of precision engineering that you can have no qualms about abusing daily, then it’s a watch that actually makes a lot of sense (well, as much sense as we can ask for in this odd hobby of ours).
In terms of qualms about daily wear, that is understandable (and the 904L steel is a mite easier scratched than the more common 316L steel), but these watches look well with a little personality, and besides, at service time Rolex will offer complimentary (and crucially, sympathetic) polishing work to make it look ‘good as new’, so wear away.
Either way, I predict it’ll soon come to make your wearing decision for you, and you’ll end-up reaching for it more often than not – it’s a very satisfying piece, and so versatile it becomes a ‘no brainer’. If your wrist has a tendency to fluctuate in size, then the Glidelock bracelet adjustability offers daily comfort and is a feature you’ll quickly come to miss on all your other watches that lack a similar function.

Re: I went for it...did I do the right thing?!
I really like both the current ceramic bezel and previous aluminium versions of the Submariner.
However to all those who say "wear it all the time" I have always wondered whether I would sometimes keep the bezel protector on a ceramic if wearing it everyday as a tool watch regardless of activity....
Ceramic bezel replacement = approximately £500
Aluminium bezel insert replacement = approximately £35
