I have mentioned the Rolex before but it seems like you need to look at their GMT range. Based on your progress up teh horological ladder it seems a reasonable progression.

By the way I am the only on on the forum that does no like the Speedy?
I have yet to see a Rolex GMT that I would feel comfortable wearing, and most (if not all) of them have the cyclops which I feel ruins the look of the watch.

As for your views on the Speedy, I'm sure you are not alone. I'm still not 100% convinced, although when you put one on your wrist, there is something 'right' about it. :)

Also not too into the speedy but admittedly I have never worn one. Something about the position of the sub dials that doesn't quite do it for me.

I quite like the look of the White faced Bremont though.

I have to say that I'm not a big fan of the Speedy either. Maybe the quality of it would win me over if I were ever in a position to have one on my wrist, but looking at it on a screen, it doesn't wow me. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a watch, it would need to wow me. I think I'd want just about anything else in the Omega range more than a Speedy.

I really love the look of this one, for instance. Kind of reminds me of a CWL favorite we all know and love. At least a little bit anyway.

I also really like that Bremont Solo. Very very nice.

You guys are all right. I thought the same until i tried it on and then got hold of one. It is the most versatile watch i now have in my collection and therefore most worn.

The handwound S/S Speedy is one of those watches that doesn't look that special in a picture on the web. It is only when you try it on and live with it for a day or two does it seem so right and perfect. It is just quality and the design sneaks up and makes you fall in love with it! :o

You know when you have been chasing a watch for a while and then are disappointed when you get a chance to try it on, the Speedy is the reverse of that.

Another update. (This is turning into war and peace). ;)

Tried the speedy again at the airport...they had the hesalite version and I've definitely decided against that one. (By the way, it was about £100 cheaper than the AD price, so I'd probably stick with the AD in order to get some goodwill and service in the future).

I also had a good look at a Broadarrow 1957..

Very nice, but too expensive and not sufficiently 'special' IMHO.

I keep getting drawn back to the Supermarine.....:)

Do it.... do it.... You know you want to. Resistance is futile.

I've been looking at Bremont a lot over the last couple of days, particularly the ALT1-C / CR. Looks really nice. I still don't have a cream dial in my collection, after all.

Just read Bremont have signed a deal with Beaverbrooks, no doubt they needed to replace Omega after some boutique openings.....sooo we may well see a few discounted Bremonts out there in the sales as noone ever buys watches from beaverbrooks......or probably we won't as that was possibly the reason why Bremont cut ties with goldsmiths.

Still its more exposure for the brand plus I can walk down to my local mall to look them over rather than taking the train up to Harrods :)
I miss all the great things that may never be.

I also saw the news about Beaverbrooks. I guess Bremont need a mainstream outlet with plenty of stores, but I also agree, they do not need (and cannot have) a retailer who discount the watches on a regular basis (other than end of line sales).

I suspect you are right about the Goldsmiths deal. Bremont have to control the prices....

In case anyone else would like to come to a similar end point, here's an absolutely great review of downer's newest...

Thanks for that link Peteo.... That's the one that finally persuaded me.

Buried in the comments on that page, I found another link to this video showing a Bremont being frozen....The guy ends up using a hammer to chip the ice from the watch....it ain't nice to watch.

Wonderful. I'm glad that there are people out there in the world who are willing to do these experiments so that I don't have to take the chance on them.

And while we're littering this forum with more and more Bremont porn, I direct your attention to this shot.

Lovely. Me want.
