I've hit the reset button on my collection ...

Post by StrappedUp »

... and it feels liberating!

It started when I ended up with 12 or so watches prior to lockdown. Not a lot for most, but far too many for me.
The feeling of guilt leaving watches unworn for periods of time, anxiety picking out a watch to wear. Quite literally unhealthy and something that I needed to rectify.

So I started whittling the numbers down 1 by 1, beginning with the watches gaining least wear (obvious choice!).

The numbers have still fluctuated a bit along the way, but I finally arrived at 2, my Aquis LE and Aikon and both are absolutely superb watches.
Both fantastic watches and chuffed to bits with them, BUT ... I still felt as though things weren't going to settle down as I'd hoped.
I've thought about this more and more over the last couple of months and finally decided that if I was going to move forward with just a couple of watches and not get distracted, then it would probably have to consist of watches I've really longed to own. Something special that I can one day hand down to the little ones.
'Grails' if you will, although I'm not a huge fan of that term. You get the jist.
The temptation around these parts blows my tiny mind, so I most certainly need all the help I can get to avoid veering off course!

So what does the future hold?
Well, I have a new addition arriving today that could spell the end for both of the aforementioned watches.
It is a watch that I've constantly thought about since starting out 6-7 years ago. Never really panned out because I've always had this self-imposed spending limit on a single watch, but mainly because of my erratic buying/selling habits. I will post a seperate thread on this.

I decided that now seemed like as good a time as any to effectively start from the scratch.
More to follow once it's arrived ...

A very suspenseful post! You could be writing for Netflix...what is the chosen one? Or are we waiting for the cliffhanger?

It arrived, but I've got a minor issue that I'm hoping the AD can resolve.

Having a beer (and a sulk) atm, so please bear with me. Don't want to get ahead of myself.

Anyway, here is said watch ...

^^^ hope you are able to get it sorted Ryan. What is the issue?

I have to say I was rather taken by the current AT models when I recently tried a couple on. Going to wait until they do my (current) preferred option in 38mm.

Congratulations, Ryan! I'm sure the AD will get it squared away for you, whatever the issue is. Sad to see your Clean Ocean leave but completely understand your rationale and moving forward in your watch collecting. Cheers!

An issue with the machining on the endlinks. Looks off to me, but I'm waiting/hoping to hear back from some photos I've emailed.

Oh, and tell me they aren't planning on releasing the grey/blue in 38mm?
That'll put a spanner in the works and may make the pain of returning easier.

Thanks John, although it may well stay yet. Depends on whether it will still get worn and if I can then justify the finances to keep both.

Very nice! I thought about doing this myself a few times. I just can’t imagine selling many of my current pieces though. But it’s good to hear how liberating it is. Hope whatever the issue is gets sorted quickly!

As ajax87 said, I would struggle to release so many (although I do need to before another purchase) but this is a great addition.
I hope you enjoy wearing it as much as I do my earlier version, it’s still my favourite.
