I own a watch with a bit of a car in it!

Post by missF »

Stand aside those of you who own Bremonts with bits of planes in the back. I’ve just received a limited edition watch built as a cooperation between MAM (a Spanish jewellery boutique with seemingly dodgy customer service reputation), and Universal Studios , celebrating the 1985 movie ‘Back to the Future’. The said bit of metal comes from the DeLorian car used in the film! *

This is so exciting!

I received a watch with two digital displays. An LCD screen that is visible behind the crystal at the top, and an LED screen that lights up and shines through the recycled / upcycled bit of wood at the bottom when you push a button.

The packaging was spot on - here’s the box and the insert. There was also an A4 poster with the instructions on the back:

I re-watched ‘Back to the Future’ while I was waiting for my watch to arrive. It’s a brilliant film. Did I buy the watch because of the BTTF connection? No. Does this even look like Marty McFly’s watch?? (See poster). I bought it because I love retro-futuristic digital watches. And ironic watches. There are a lot of them around at the moment. But I genuinely love this one because there aren’t many around that look like this. I love the fact that it’s the size of an Apple Watch but has two digital readouts that can tell me day, date, and day of the week! :D

I’m loving the nostalgia trip. :D

* Erm, well it’s actually the ‘same type of metal used in a DeLorian chassis...
* Erm, well it’s recycled stainless steel...

Keep the packaging, Lindsey. It will be mega provenance on the Antiques Roadshow.
I still have the packaging for my teletubbies.

 I wasn’t particularly looking on it as an investment - the bracelet clasp is held together by two curls of wire and I don’t think it’ll last very long!

Well it’s the only ever limited edition BTTF watch ever made, so it’s a classic of something!

Can I say that I love the Scandinavian minimalist design of it without being laughed off the forum??!

I was expecting a flux capacitor in the back

Looks mad but fun, you just need to get a DeLorean now to complete the look (or a puffer jacket).

That's cool Lindsey. Really retro and different. Top notch.

I love the artistic licence on the "bit of metal from the car".

I'd heard of watches by the Delorean Motor Company a couple of years ago, but they all seem to be sold out and the DMC Instagram account is dormant with the most recent post being two years ago. :-k :-k

Enjoy wearing it.
