Re. 100m WR, the Oris 65 has the same WR, and was taken on a real dive in a review I read. No harm befell it.

No, it is a discontinued model. And not 38mm!

Thanks. ETA is the 28th, but there is bound to be a delay somewhere.

i've seen a 30m rated timex taken to 100 ft and not have it leak. doesn't necessarily mean it would be a good idea to do it regularly. ;)

chances are, you could be just fine. but if you're spending more than a couple of hundred bucks, i'd be a lot more careful with how much you trust the ratings and how well they actually tested that watch. was it tested to ISO standards or just a basic pressure testing machine? if you're sure it was ISO, you're probably ok.

I have surprised myself

Well done! With a bit of insider knowledge, I’ll bet it’s a model that I had up until recently. Not my watch though...

I consulted Gary since I found his wonderful pictures, and his feedback gave me the assurances I needed. Thanks Gary. Now I have to try and take pictures that are as good as his.

The PAM512 is to my mind one of the most attractive models Panerai have released in the last few years. Slim, an interesting case, sensible size, sandwich dial, in-house movement. What’s not to like!

Obviously I agree. :D

That said, I can understand hardcore Paneristi who say that slim, small(ish) and elegant is not what Panerai is about. My view is that it is good for Panerai and for buyers to have the choice, and the 512 retains plenty classic Panerai DNA.

I’m now shopping straps. I have understood that one of the joys of having a Panerai is having lots of straps.

I have always liked the clean, elegant looks of Panerai, but I have generally been defeated by the notions of size. And cost.

Agreed. I have increasingly come to appreciate the elegant, distinctive design. A certain Italian flair. And at 42mm I trust the 512 will be very wearable.

As I’m consolidating, the out of pocket expense will not be too bad.
