It's decided then, I'll try to quit it. Thanks, guys!
Re: Hand wound - once per day, or several times?
I've just got BWC ChronoTempo manual watch,NOS. I'm winding it once a day. After three days, it's running fast,by a minute a day. Is this normal? I was advised a new watch needs time to bed in...
All my other watches are pre owned.

Consider your watch a woman........ .....if you wind it up too much trouble normally follows........
Remember...your left hand has the thumb on the right hand side

Its a bit too much. Winding it once a day is fine If its running at 1 minute a day fast its not likely to get much better. (sorry)

Is handwinding necessary on a watch that's worn daily?

Yes, if it is a manual wind watch.bamagrad03 wrote:Is handwinding necessary on a watch that's worn daily?

If you have a handwound watch, not an automatic - just jolly well wind it up to the top in the morning and forget about it, like millions of men before you...
GrahamH - sometimes a new watch may have a little too much oil on the hairspring and runs fast for a few days. Wear it for a bit and the warmth of your wrist and daily use may make it suddenly drop back. Don't worry about it for now... UB

Great one footy . All I ever need to know about mainsprings and winding in one article... and it made simple sense to a simple person. What's the next lesson we all need to know ?

Thanks for this linkfootycrazy wrote:Most vintage manual winds will have a power reserve of 36 hours + so a full wind each morning is fine. And if your lucky to have a movement that has a reserve of 48/49+ hours then wind it every other dayor 36 hours in. You will get to know your watch and how many times you can wind it, so you can slow down as you get near to the full. Although you may not be able to overwind it, you definitely can break it if too much torque is used.
I found this quite usefull.

It Dispelled a few myths for me and particularly relevant as i've finally re-ventured into mechanical watches again albeit just a couple of basic low cost vintage hand winders
