Got a hankering for a black-cased watch
Got a hankering for a black-cased watch
I've only ever owned one black-cased watch - a CW C8 - and I thought I was done with the idea. However, recently, I've started looking at them again.
I fancy a black-cased automatic with a 40-43mm (ish) case and a reasonable (max 48mm) lug-to-lug. I am imagining a casual watch with a leather strap - and possibly from a brand that is not in my current collection. I prefer 3 handers but could consider a chronograph.
A few I've seen...
Sinn 856/857
The Pinion Axis
The Black Bay Dark
The Typhoon
Fortis Monolith (available for a great price)
Apart from all the above, there are probably one or two Ball models that may be suitable...
However, I thought I'd ask what else is out there - preferably in the £1k territory?

Break the barriers - case size, lug2lug, price - they are just numbers

^^^ Some Panerai models are borderline acceptable to me. That ain't one of them.

Get this PAM292, case 45mm, lug-lug 50mm, height 14mm, Ceramic.downer wrote:^^^ Some Panerai models are borderline acceptable to me. That ain't one of them.
Re: Got a hankering for a black-cased watch
Both the Sinn models look good, Bell and Ross do a similar range of ceramics that are nice too.
I resolved my desire for a black case watch with the C1000 and I have been very happy with it. I was initially concerned about the lack of a running second hand but to be honest it has not been an issue. The strap is really nice but it looks good on a variety of alternatives and for the the price I think it would be hard to find a better value black case.

If it wasn't that you already had the vintage Black Bay, I would have said the Tudor.
As you have I'll suggest the Sinn 857.

Plenty of choice from Damasco in both 40mm and 42mm, both 3 handler and chrono.

At the affordable end, I like the Damaskos, but the Heuer Monza is a stunner...
