The only thing better than getting a new watch is when a loved one buys one for you. Adds another level of sastisfaction everytime you look at it.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

Absolutely.
I'm fortunate that my wife appreciates nice watches, even if she just got her first watch in a very long time at Christmas (CWL Victoria).
I was out of town at a conference and took my new Monaco with me and kept staring at it because the light catches the square crystal so well. Walked into the Tag Heuer botique and the salesman put on his velvet glove when he noticed it on my wrist. Guess he thought the odds of selling me another watch would be high. Didn't have the heart to tell him that I window shop at the boutiques and source my watches at ADs that will make deals or gray market dealers.

Indeed, IMO the Monaco has many great qualities. It's be interesting to read the diverse opinions expressed here and on another forums re the Monaco range and that of TAG HEUER as a brand. I would probably agree that it has an aggressive advertising startergy and appears to milk the Steve McQueen and Le Mans connection for all that its worth. However, I would argue that it would be difficult to dispute their Horological worth. Just take a look at the Carrera Mikrogirder, a watch that measures time to 5/10,000ths of a second and was awarded the Aiguille d'Or. I'm delighted to included TAG HEUER watches in my collection.Hoss Coog wrote:kept staring at it because the light catches the square crystal so well

I don't usually use this but +1! Having experienced the thrill and emotion of receiving a watch from my father in law last year, I absolutely agree with this sentiment.Berkshire wrote:Without a doubt.Dancematt wrote:The only thing better than getting a new watch is when a loved one buys one for you. Congratulations Richard and enjoy your new watch. I am sure it will give you much pleasure

Richard, that's a truly beautiful watch and is one of my grail watches. The fact that your wife got it for you as a surprise is fantastic.

Lucky Chap!
Congrats to you and kudos to your missus
I'm reminded of the time my wife bought me a C15 out of the blue for a Christmas present, not realising I'd had one and sent it back because it was too big for my wrist.
I wore it gamely for a few weeks when even she said "that doesn't really suit you does it? Why not send it back and get something else.."
Which I did
She's a keeper too
