in the end, to each their own and if it makes you happy, then it's the right watch for you. you probably won't find much love or support for buying for either on a watch aficionado site. but as i said, if it makes you happy...

If you are going to get a fashion watch, at least stick with all stainless steel. the plating might wash off if it gets wet. :problem:

For $900 you could get a very nice swiss made ETA movement watch from any number if respected brands like Hamilton, Raymond Weil or even Frederique Constant.

One of the only fashion brands that I might consider paying more than a couple hundred for would be a Cartier or... maybe Gucci for the wife.

I bought a couple of straps from Fossil - does that count

Actually, my 25 year old NATO habit seems to be fashionable now - am I a trend setter, or is this just proof that fashion is cyclical :D

Hi Kip,

The versus one has a 2 yr warranty, and Guess watches have a 10 yr warranty. I have had a $20 timex indiglo for 10 years. So I doubt a fashion watch will disintegrate while wearing it. But I understand the comments and that for a $300 fashion watch I am paying mostly for the design and brand name.

Kevin,

I have had a Timex for almost 40 years and I just hope the plating has improved since then - didn't cost my dad $20 though

Gshocks I wear for the gym now and again. Best purchase for any watch was this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Casio-G-Shock-D ... ack+gshock for £26 Argos eBay page

Hi Robin CB,

A watch that lasted 40yrs and cost under $20 dollars. Not sure any proper watches could beat that. :)

Kevin,

I have to be honest - it was my daily wear for 7 or 8 years, then only dragged out if my quartz needed a new battery. It still runs, but really needs a look at (which is not economical) :(

I still have my dad's Rolex though, bought in the 50s, which he wore constantly for over 50 years. I had it serviced a few years ago and it still purrs along. It is a little small for me really, but one of my daughters will have it when I think they can look after it properly.

This is one example of those storm watches. I wore this for 10 years solid. Bought in 1994.

And re: Gshock. White always looks cheap. Everyone started buying white gshocks after eminem wore one in a dr dre music video. So I guess if you want to look like a badass rapper or pimp...... Be my guest on the white.

Hi,

The fendi watch is swiss made, eta auto movement, saffire crystal, 300 meter water resist, and it is on ebay for $799 or best offer. If I could get it for under $700 it would be hard to beat even by the names you listed.

The Versus one is a quartz, so different ball game especially if I want a quartz.

The Gucci and Cartier are out of my range. I wouldn't spend near $1000 for a watch.

Since all of the swiss watches, say swiss made we don't know where they are made. Who knows a fendi and a Hamilton may be made in the same factory?
