English made watch

Post by trsleigh »

Has anyone got one of these?
http://www.dialrestorer.co.uk/11.html
or
http://www.robertloomes.com/1.html

They seem to be having the same thoughts about their logo as CW, ie Robert Loomes vs Rbt Loomes. Personally I prefer the whole name version. Hint hint.

I've a brother-in-law who lives in Stamford, might surprise the wife by suggesting a visit. :)

Very interesting. I did not spot any pricing. Do you have any idea what ballpark these are in?

On the surface at least , it seems a very nice niche brand. 8)

When I last looked at their site, probably a couple of years ago, the copper-bottomed watch was selling for something very reasonable. It might have been around the £700 mark, but don't take that as gospel, I have been known to be wrong. :o

The fact that you have to contact them suggests it is going to cost.

But it does look like what a lot of people have been asking for - a C1 style hand wound. Personally it is not for me.

Exactly. I'm still looking for a dial with roman numerals and small second. :D

I asked them about the chronograph early this year. Can't remember for sure, but I think it was a thousand and something pounds. I really must visit them sometime (I'm not far away from them).

I like the look of that chrono with the perfect logo on it. Who wants the entire name on the dial anyway? Rbt is a great abbreviation. I suppose one could put three next to each other thus, Rbt Rbt Rbt as a light hearted piece of onomatopoeia.

As watches go, most of the images are of too quaint pieces but I would be interested to hear from anyone who gets a response about the chrono (Highway?) I really like the idea of a British built piece with a British movement inside.

Looks like the original steel cased "Stamford" watch was £470... according to the link to the Stamford Mercury. Doesn't sound bad at all for a hand tweaked movement. Guess the copper bottomed watch and the chronograph would have taken the price northwards.

The gentleman got back to me quickly last night with a lovely email. Sadly, I won't be darkening his door for one of those babies! :(
