+1 for the Orient Bambino or perhaps a pre-owned CW C2 Lido. Both great looking dress/sport watches.

Let us know what you decide!

(don't know where you would buy in UK, but http://orientwatchusa.com/er24005w, around 170 pounds retail, can be had for less).

To be honest I think the Davosa ticks all the boxes for what you are after. There is a Citizen eco drive that's similar and about half the price too but I think its roman numerals and some people are not too big on them.
They have that in a few styles, white dial with brown leather strap or black dial I think.

I was going to throw my two cents in but everyone here has already suggested everything I would recommend. Orient really is an underrated brand and well worth a look. The Seiko 5 line seems to be very reasonable and also comes in many different styles.

I know it a quartz but I've always loved the design of the Mondaine.

Have you tried a Dreyfuss? Some of the square ones look classy and a bit thinner than usual.

C5 quartz. A lot of watch for the money. I need on for my collection. I might have to put out a WTB.

I like these too, but don't thing I'd wear one for a dressy occasion. My friend has one - he's let me look it over. I'd wear it for a smart casual occasion. Very nice watch though; I agree - great design.

I think Bulova 96A111 will be greatest choice in this price range. VERY rich looking watch.
