Looked at this one, and thought "ooh I like that!"........ Then it hit me.....
I bought a adequate PAM535 replica to make sure I could get used to the size and looks. I did, sold the replica for the same amount and now saving for the real thing. It will take some time, but it will come.
This is the exact reason why the big brands keep the replica fora like RWI untouched
Thanks everyone. Lots of sensible advice. I think I need to try on these models again, and perhaps some others too. Next week I may get the chance to pop to London, so with any luck I'll get the chance to visit a sympathetic dealer who'll allow me to try on a few models.
I'll hold back from getting a pretend Rolex for now
Good luck getting an AD in London to admit to having a sub in stock, they all do of course but they like to play this "hard to come by" game so they can avoid discounts
C60 Trident Pro Black
C60 Trident Pro Blue
C60 Trident Pro Red
C5 Malvern mk2 quartz
C8 Pilot mk2 Black
C600 Blue
Plus over 30 other watches
Atnits, pm me when you know when in London. I can give you some suggestions on where to go and maybe even meet up so you can try mine if you can't find one in an AD. David Duggan by bond street normally has some nearly new subs in

I've thought alone similar lines and tried a few homages to get a sense of whether I like the style. Pans for example aren't me. I've also tried 44mm GMTs which again I discounted, which was a surprise as for 10 years I wore a SMP, which isn't small.
I tried and like the Squale Atmos 20, which is or course a Sub homage and very similar in dimensions, which Steinhart are not, so it helped me to get a proper sense of whether I would really like a Sub.
I later tried on D and ND, the C, SD and DSSD, and was utterly impressed with the DSSD. It felt and looked the ultimate tool watch.
However, descending in size from the SMP to a 36mm Explorer, which I initially didn't believe would suit me, convinced me or rather woke me up to the fact that anything over 42mm is in danger of looking too big on the majority of wrists. While perhaps 36mm is now on the small size for my tastes, 40mm is pretty much bang on. So as a result of wearing watches up to 44mm and down to 36mm I came to the conclusion that the best proportions are around 40mm. Of course the design dictates whether it's 40mm of dial or dial and bezel.
Like most folks I have looked at Subs in windows and on Forums, but there was something not quite right about them in my eyes. Perhaps it was the lighting that made them look too bling; brand association; cost to name but a few thoughts.
However, having recently tried one on in an AD, having not liked it in the display cabinet, it looked brilliant on. As had the homage.
It gave me the courage - and I use the word correctly - to chop in my collection and pick up a 14060M, which I was initially underwhelmed with! It could be for a host of reason, but after a few days it has become treasured, and despite a love of watches can't really think of anything else that would be worn.
Worth trying a homage I'd say. And probably worth trying one that you may actually like, and would have easy and good resale value if you deceived to move it on.

Oh.
You want a new sub.
Ah...no - I definitely don't want a new one. I should have been clearer, sorry. 14060 is probably the one for me.
