What about this, Steve, on the chronomaster website? It's not yellow but the blue detail looks nice.

Do it! I love the all blue. My dressiest diver.Loddonite wrote:I like it so much I have three - I still want to get the all blue.
AVO, I don't think that you can go wrong with a Mako, SKX 007/009, or the Monster. However, since you dont 'do' divers, go with the Mako. The least diverish of the bunch, and the one that dresses up the best. You could take it on holiday solo, and be comfortable wearing it at the pool and out for a nice dinner. The blue is more subtle, and dressier than the orange, but not as fun.

Thanks for all the responses, guys! Really appreciated.
Noticed that Deep Blue O/S, JAG, but a bit over budget anyway.
I still like the yellow Mako best, but one of the Amphibias looks especially lovely...oh, dear, might have to be both!

... the dial is lovely, a silky finish - but it is the most expensive of the Makos, probably scarcity value.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:I still like the yellow Mako best

If you're going cheap, Seiko are a sound choice.
How about, for a little more, one of the Precista divers from Timefactors?

It has to be the Orange Monster......I paid £85 ish for mine off the bay, you can get them cheap if you are willing to wait for one to come up. It is my fav "daily" watch, and has had many admirers. If you pay a little more you must get one with the metal bracelet.....it is for me the best bracelet i have ever worn....a real quality watch with a lume you can use as a torch !

You're all wonderfully helpful, guys - THANK YOU!
I just don't see orange as being for me, but I'm going into town today so will try to look at one! Precista look to do some nice watches but somewhat over budget...I've just bought a Nomos, FGS!
Yellow Mako still the leading contender, but keep on trying to confuse me - it's FUN!

I think the white Seiko Stargate is a great holiday watch! Seiko SKZ323. 42mm. Can't remember the price, but around £200. Looks very good on a black rubber strap.

Re: Cheap auto diver - recommendations please?
Well, nothing on the high street fitted the bill...as I expected. Had great fun winding up sales assistants though!
"Yes, the mid-size Omega is lovely - did I mention my budget, by the way?"
"Very nice, but it's black and it's quartz, and it's twice my budget. Shall we start again?"
Best one though was a very snooty and pompous little git in one store...
"Orient and Vostok, sir? Yes, you'll find them on the internet, but not in the shops, I'm afraid...there's no demand for that sort of thing."
"Well I just started one...thank you...'bye!"

Cheap-ish auto divers - update
So I've had the Orange Monster now for a month - very nice, Mr. Mikepj - it's been worn rather more than the hi-vis! I really like it, despite not being an auto fan I'll make an exception...this movement powers up really well.
This year's holiday will be a pool-beach-"Banyan-Rig" affair, so I've been looking for a Yellow Mako to rotate with it, and won't be taking any dressy/vintage pieces.
Finally found Yellow Makos in stock in the UK and ordered one today, so it should be landing this week!

No, Andrew, I got the expensive vintage bug for my next target, but I do like the OM (sorry!) and if the Orient is as nice, I'll have a lovely twosome of smart hardwearing casuals for the hols, where the dressy vintage stuff would be inappropriate and silly.JAG wrote:You dont have the diver bug do we steve

'Tis a slippery slope. You'll be buying a Cave Dweller next!

Too right - I'd be walking in circles all holiday!
No, Richard, my radar is hunting a little golden beauty that probably left Le Sentier or La Chaux-de-Fonds in the early '60s!

If you're going to go Orient Mako, may as well go Mako XL for a few bucks more.
