Every time I wear my Planet Ocean Liquidmetal I am struck by 3 things:

1. It's a heavy old beast.
2. The lume is incredible.
3. The dial clarity is (in my experience) unsurpassed.

I attribute the clarity to the fact the watch has a polished ceramic dial and double-sided AR coating - see spec below:

This got me thinking - what other watches are out there with ceramic dials? I did a few google searches but didn't really find anything. Loads of ceramic cases and even more ceramic bezels, but nothing specific on ceramic dials.

Does anyone know of any?

The current Seamaster with the laser engraved waves is a ceramic dial. It also has the chemical symbol ZrO2 engraved near the centre.

I’m not sure if it’s an Omega thing or whether other brands use ceramic off the top of my head.

The Seamaster 300Ms have one too. To be honest I like the older Planet Oceans better. Less blingy. This trend toward blingy tool watches just isn't my thing. Good for me as I can usually get a good deal on older models but the new ones just don't work for me.

100% agree! A tool watch needs to look like a tool. I think Seiko does the best job of walking the line of looking high end and refined while still clearly looking like a tool watch with a lot of their divers.

I have just had a look at the Omega website. It looks like there are a few with ceramic dials (some of which also have ceramic cases).

There is also a BP FF Bathyscaphe with a ceramic dial. Probably more.

Thanks guys. I didn't realise the current PO and SM300 had ceramic dials. I suppose it's an obvious progression really.

@Neil, as for he BP Bathyscaphe, that's a watch I've always admired and actually tried a couple of times back when I was up for that sort of outlay. I never realised it was a ceramic dial though. Does that apply to all models? The BP website seems a bit vague.

And finally, good grief those current Omega's are expensive!

I don’t think so. Old pic from 2017 when the 38mm was released.

IIRC the blue 43mm had one, but not the 38mm. There was a bigger price differential between them than would be expected. The shades of blue were distinctly different.

So the FF is another of the watches I have tried on over the years and not bought. 38mm slightly too small. 43mm slightly too big I guess. :(

Omega's DSOTM was the first of their offerings with a ceramic dial, case, buckle and deployant (with titanium).

I too have a POLM although never manage to capture it as well in photos as Richard. I agree the dial clarity and the polished finish of the dial, with the applied Omega name, logo, numerals/indices are amazing. Such a beautiful watch. Having said that, I don't wear it too often and have toyed with parting with it.

I also have the latest SMP and actually didn't realise that too had a ceramic dial, although I should have done as the ZrO2 symbol is present on the dial of that watch, as it is on the POLM. Quite a different look though in terms of much more of a matt (or at least much less shiny) finish with the wave pattern.

The gradual step transition in height from the proud index through to the engraved compound formula is superb!
