Black Bough - anyone seen this site?

Post by Amor Vincit Omnia »

I've never seen this one before:
http://www.blackbough.enstore.com/browse/watches/1

A tad pricy perhaps, but in line with a lot of internet sellers. The watches are nicely presented and well described and photographed.

Admired this site quite a few times, really like it, prices arent massively bad i dont think, as you say - inline with alot of sellers provided they are well serviced.

Finish on some watches is obviously not original, especially the Breitling chrono but the polish looks of a high quality if you can live with that.

The Gold Omega cosmic looks just stunning! and i very much like the Tudor on the last page, will watch for further stock announcements.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

It is a lovely shop in Ludlow which we have visited and tried a few of the watches on including the shiny Breitling. I actually like the Breitling a lot and think that having the original finish polished out to a shine gives the watch a very contemporary Breitling look. If something came up that I liked enough and could afford at the time that it was available then I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them

+1 the Cosmic is wonderful!

I was also struck by the dial on the JLC:

There's no sustitute for taste, but it does make me wonder whether hommage is a purely recent concept - I think imitation of and aspiration to the best has always been there in some form or another. Anyway, the Jaeger is too small and I can't afford it. :(

AVO, I bet you came across that site after browsing for vintage JLC!
I particularly like the Omega Cosmic - I was browsing for these a couple of months ago. I read a few horror stories about the cost of repairing the movement on these, however. (Don't know how true that is.)

They don't give a calibre number for this watch, interestingly enough. From the date I'd suspect 500 series. I'd email them a query if interested.

Oh, and actually, I just googled "Vintage Watches" to see if anything came up that I hadn't seen before. This one is now in favourites.

I used to own one of these not long ago, i believe it had a 24j Calibre 752 which is basically a 5xx series quickset & day/date and the only real difference service wise was that the case is a monocoque (open through glass) which is the main reason i sold it (I don't have the tool & i like to look and regulate mine ) :( An absolutely gorgeous looking dial. Other than the "open through glass" there is nothing else that would cause a nightmare for servicing, its a standard Omega movement.

Here is MAR10

Thanks for the info footycrazy. I think at the time it was the Cosmic 2000 that I was looking at. (I presume it's the same movement though :ka: )

Mine is, considering its a 40 year old watch!! :D

It was overhauled just before I got it some 3 years or so ago.

It's a fair old chunk of watch too, compared to most from that era!!

I just thought I'd update this. The watch I've got coming is from there. Very nice friendly person on the phone, courteous and helpful emails and a very quick turnaround - watch now in transit and I'll have it within 48 hours of buying. All good so far.
