Aviation Style Watch

Post by Rookie1986 »

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for an aviation style watch for my day-to-day work watch. Since its going to be for work and is likely to get knocked and bashed from time-to-time I really don't want to be spending more than say £50... if something automatic is possible in the price range then it would be preferred over a quartz :)

Does anyone have any ideas?

Seiko 5, Military?

Around the £60 mark on Amazon. Auto, exhibition back. And comes in a range of colours. The one I've linked to is the smaller version (around 37mm I think); there's a larger one, but probably more expensive?

If you want something bigger the there is a 44mm Parnis done as a classic hand wound aviator style for £55.

This one for £54

I had this model. Too big for me at 44mm.

The Seiko 5 is exactly what I'm looking for but I can't seem to find out what size strap it takes (would like to fit a nice NATO to it). Does anywhere on the high street still sell them or is it going to be an Internet only job??

Thanks guys,

There are two watch sizes... Here's a couple of examples on ebay (although other colours are available with a quick search)..

First, the SNK8...., a 37mm watch on 18mm strap... Link

Then, the SNZG...., this one is 42mm with 22mm lugs... Link

The SNZG is more expensive, but in my opinion, it is a better size and has a newer version of the movement. I have one as a beater and it keeps very good time.

If you find one in a UK shop, it is likely to be far more expensive than on-line.

Yeah the 42mm would be more to my liking, and it will allow me to use the 22mm RLT NATO's that I bought ready to go with my C60 so I will save a fair bit by not having to buy them again.

Thanks for the help guys :)

Just as a bit of reassurance, I purchased a Seiko direct from Yorkshire watches a few months back and it was a very smooth deal.

Fast delivery as well.

A Seiko 5 is an excellent choice! Ironically, while my '5' is my cheapest auto, it's also my most accurate. Runs at about +2secs a day. Sometimes not even that. The next most accurate is my C9 FLE at -4secs a day, but rather more costly!
Omega Constellation Megaquartz, and various other quartz...

Just a bit of amazement... they're half a mile down the road from me and I never knew they even existed until now !! Will have to go for a nosey :)
