Yes, it would look good on a black; your point is good too, Yoda. I hope Chris finds some way of fitting more autos into his business plan, one way or another.

Hi Flash,

That is one hell of a beautiful watch and you cannot go wrong with a Stowa. I recently brought the Stowa No Logo Airman, as I was getting impatient waiting for the C8, and it is now my main casual wear watch.

I have to say the quality, presentation and service is top notch, even better that CWL but to be fair they are more expensive but boy does it show.

I promise you will not be disappointed but beware delivery can take a while if they have back orders.

P.S. I have also made the decision to stop buying Quartz, so apart from the C8, only the C15 is interesting me at the moment at CWL but it a tough choice with all those options!

Russ, the model I'm looking at is a bit C1 ish - it's a new version of the original with roman numerals instead of numbers. Take a look on the site, you'll see what I'm getting at. Thanks for the info on the movement too, I had a feeling you'd give me all the dope on the innards... :) .
Flash

I’ve seen their site and and this new one is quite beautiful. I like the roman numerals much better. The C1 is also as beautiful and similar but the difference, of course, being the movement, and that’s a huge difference. I’ve always liked the Stowa line of watches. They are a great company. Any manufacturer who sticks in Unitas 6498's isn’t out there to fool the public. Quite the contrary. They are selling serious quality watches for using this movement. The Unitas 6498 is exactly what the C1 should be sporting on the inside. I think CW will eventually get around to it but it will increase the price considerably.

You are not being fair to yourself. The future of clock movements is with quartz and wrist watches is with composite movements. Hybrid designs are out now. Check out the threads where Russ and myself have debated the future and the way we see things going. I'm an engineer and Russ is a collector and we have much the same interests. We want to see the very best engineering in future watch technology. Mechanical movements with solar backup powering a hybrid quartz/mechanical movement are about.

Good one Russ, hadn't thought of that. Will it take complications because the next reincarnation of the C1 should have a complication. I still think that the C1 is the very best CWL watch for its simplicity and beauty.

That's encouraging, Paw; you're right as well, I think delivery will be late October from what they've been saying, but worth the wait...Yes I think in the end if you prefer mechanicals the "no quartz" is a choice you're always going to have to make. I look at the quarts I have now and think that if I had added all the money together I could get a Fortis B42 (or something else). I'm glad I've made this decision though because as I say, it makes things a lot simpler :)

Interesting observations as usual Russ; I tend to agree with the view re C1. Great watch - deserves an automatic movement...

This is an interesting thing, Yoda. Sounds plausible, too. I think hybrids may capture my imagination more than a straight quartz does. Be interesting to see what happens.

Congrats flash

Ii'm still torn between the arabic (Brushed or Polished) and the roman. the deployants from Stowa are superb as well so a good choice there too!

Stowa have a list of dates for their watches on the official Watchuseek site and Regine over at Stowa is as helpful as Wera.

I find Stowa to be well worth the money as you are getting a hand made watch for the money, with the hands and dials made in-house and the case and movement finished and regulated in-house too!

enjoy it!

Thanks and yes, the people at Stowa are very good from my experience so far. I can understand your difficult choice, too. Mine was a bit easier because I was specifically looking for the roman numeral style and the polished case seems to go with that, but the arabic, brushed looks very good. I also like the size; 41mm is not all that common and I find it's the perfect balance between elegance and presence. I hope you get one... :)

Hi guys

I must admit if I was able to buy a Stowa MO I would go for the Arabic, Brushed on Brown Croc with deployment.

But I am also tempted by their Antea 390...very classic. Plus it is bigger and much less expensive that the Nomos

Yoda,

Will it take additional complications? That depends on what. I don’t know really. I’m not familiar with the full line of the Unitas movements. Perhaps the Valjox 7750 which is a manual or an auto but it’s chronographic. I think the Unitas is only good for the way the C1 is now.

I like the Antea as well. In fact I like every watch in the range. They are high quality but not mainstream; also every one of them including the dive watches are very stylish and elegant. Worth saving up for I'd say, bacause a couple of quartz jobbies will get you one of these... :)

For me, the fact that Stowa has kept it's lineage and has watches that are mostly taken from the Stowa museum just blows me away! You wait for the watch but they under promise and over deliver which is a very good business model! :)
