Yes, another 1st Gen owner and I find the design with less numbers a lot 'cleaner', so each to their own :) Although that's not to say the new one's horrible, I'm sure most people would be happy with either.

Now back on it's bracelet, but looks good on a strap too, I think.

Longines are great value for a Swiss brand on the up, especially from Iconic (which is where mine came from a couple of years ago).

Prefer it with more numbers myself, but then, unless it's a proper dress watch, I'm a fan of a busy dial!

Would bite your hand off for either though!

What bad luck. I'm sure you will source one at a good price

Because they are good value at the price point and you deserve one. I don't think you need any more reasons. Unfortunately having already bought 2 expensive watches in very quick succession my better half threatened me with divorce, and nice as the Hydro is, I wasn't thinking of spending quite that much!

Any Love for Longines Hydroconquest?

Post by DJP31 »

No apologies for resurrecting this thread, it’s taken me this long to acquire the target piece.

Having bought the Moonwatch (and many thanks for the guidance from all on this forum as I was considering a less IMO iconic Speedy) and shortly thereafter an Explorer 1, my wife & daughters said NO MORE. In fact my eldest said if I increased my collection I had to buy her a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes.

They said increase so I gifted an old watch that I was given and never wear away which left a slot. Obviously the intend was not to get another one so I have had to bide my time and am fully expecting a row when the new arrival is revealed.

Anyway this is what I’ve been after, and as it has been discontinued (no idea why??)

I’ve struggled to find it in stock. To cut to the chase I decided I’d go and try the blue bezel version for size, thinking I’d have to try and find one in stock on line. RRP £790, my local AD has just put it in the sale at £700, no good to me as I want the red bezel. I ask them to check stock and they have one in Edinburgh. Well they don’t now, because I have it.

Price? £630

Happy days

What a great buy! I've looked at that a few times over the last couple of years and was sorely tempted, but truth be told I'm like that with many watches. But I had no idea it had been discontinued, I don't think it had been in production for very long, but don't really know. Great price as well.

I don't understand why either. It has a better movement and improved bracelet over the previous version, and has only been around for a couple of years. I did email Longines but they haven't bothered to reply. Of course it's all personal preference but I prefer the dial layout against the former which looked unbalanced to my eye.

I couldn't believe the price either. Normally things go into sale the day after I've bought!

I had one of these for a couple of years and enjoyed wearing it. I always thought it would look better without the polished bits though.
Very well made and I remember the case back was quite elaborate. For the money, you can't really argue with them.

I like the look of the newer version too. I can't help thinking that Longines are generally overlooked on here. They are great watches, good value, with a lineage.
