What a great read! You meet the most fascinating people on the internet. A year in Antarctica is an amazing experience.
As far as antarctic people popping up everywhere, a coworker of mine recently returned from an antarctic trip, completing a life long journey of travelling to all 7 continents.
Thank you for being a modern explorer Miss F, and reminding us of the small number of people that continue to test the limits of human experience every day.

I haven't been so engrossed for ages, thanks for allowing us to share that experience with you, I did think I was going to see a picture of the all white Omega at the end for a second.
Brilliant story and pictures, and to think I was going to give the forum a miss today, so glad I didn't.

All the best Steve

And some people think watch forums are about wrist clocks.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences.
Enjoy the new watch!

One question remains – when are you going to get one of these?

I had an extremely frustrating day. I read your post and was mesmerized. Such beautiful expression of your experience and the ability to share it and the joy of the this time in your life. You connected all the dots and closed with a very fun reminder of the reason you are here and the new acquisition that shall remind you of that period of your life that obviously meant so much to you.

I can' thank you enough for taking the time to share the story and photos of that important time and it's impact on you.

It certainly made my day and it is obvious that you have brought much joy to "The Asylum".

^^ it will take a wee while, guy - i did waffle on a bit!

thank you for all your replies - i'm really glad you enjoyed the ramble (and shared the 'quirky' russian watch love too - that much was unpredictable when i set out!)

aifo  - my life is surreal! i think it's quite possibly why i marvel at these mechanical tic-tocs we wear - because they tic consistently and metronomically and reliably and marvellously while i spin around at random and never ever feel my feet on the ground. yep - i think that might be it - mechanical watches are good antidote to the psychic vertigo i have all the time. :D

:D thank you lavaine - i'll keep those words, and give you some more back - this is on my computer desktop - 'not all those who wander are lost'........... (i just do a good impression of being extremely lost from time to time!)

well, i think this is one of those grails that you never attain, but can always think about and enjoy.
if i did ever attain it i would have to find some accomodation with my C11, which is a more important watch than any grail because it's the one i wear and the one that means most :D
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

Thank you for sharing this stuff. I've nothing to add that others haven't already said, I've been entertained and educated. Brilliant.

I hope you get your polar explorer soon, you are one of the few who can lay claim to one!
There's always time for one more.
