Am I wearing a NATO wrong ?

Post by magicman »

I don't think I am, so why is the buckle so far off from the centre of my wrist ?

Hard to tell.

Lay it out flat and post the pic.

Yeah it’s weird the keepers somehow straddle the buckle.

If you lay it down flat on a table and post the pic we can tell you what’s wrong.

You've positioned the watch head too far up the strap. Simply pull the watch head further down the strap, and the buckle will be centered better.

Good morning

Sorry, I probably confused the issue by wearing it the alternative way.
But having tried it both ways now, see photo, the buckle is still way off center.
Having a 7 & 1/2 inch wrist, maybe I need to think about extra long NATO's in future.

It's something like 3/4 to 1 inch out, on the buckle side.

That is the problem with a lot of natos. Unless you want to cut out the short bit so you can move the position of the watch head. Less material under the watch also makes it wear less tall which can be a good thing.
Personally I would whack it back on the tudor strap

^^^ It’s all that golf you play, beefing up your wrists. If I may be permitted, it looks a fraction tight as well, but that might be how you like to wear them.

The buckle on the NATO should sit around the side of your wrist.

About 4 o'clock; if the top is 12 and you're looking from your fingers.

Use the photos in the Crown & Buckle link for reference.

If it's any consolation, I have the same wrist size and exactly the same problem with NATOs and thus one of the reasons I don't like/wear them.

Steve with a Nato strap you need to decide if you are wearing it for the look or for comfort.

If the former, you need to get used to the walt look of the unnecessary metal work and extra flappy bit.

If the latter, cut of the flappy bit and position the buckle where you want.

Then having had a few goes at wearing both styles, remove and place both styles in your strap box.

Order an Erica’s Original (not one of the cheap imitations). Happiness all round. :)

Yes, I've been using grippers to keep the wrists strong as I age.
It is a bit snug, but the next hole feels loose.
I'm one of those People who seem to be between sizes on everything, shoes, trousers etc.
I've solved the belt issue by buying a hole punch and an elasticated belt.

I probably will, most of my watches end up back on their original straps.

Thanks Neil, I like those, but I don't think they work with the fixed lugs

^^^^ Erica's Original have been modified recently to allow them to be used on watches with fixed spring bars.

Info on their website.

Just had a look at the erica original site. Blimey they are expensive! Are they really that good and is there not a cheaper but similiar option? Never handled one myself.
