What a great story and what a great ending! I'm so glad that you were able to get both watches working again. It just goes to show you that just because the ADs don't want to touch the watches doesn't mean they aren't worth being fixed and that there isn't someone somewhere willing to get the job done. And done quite well I might add.

Thanks all, feels like the end of a long mission. Wanted to do it all year but have been putting it off at the same time. Both have come out very well, even the H461 and I couldn't recommend Brendon enough for servicing the auto (a loss of 3 seconds a day it seems). I thought it would be more expensive. I lived in fear of extortionate service prices for a while but no more, independants every time for me.

I came across it a few months ago, threw a new battery in it and it started humming away...impressive really!

That's a cool watch, I can almost imagine the quirky seiko advertisement for it. What's with the bars on the leather strap? I've seen these a few times recently.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

Dancematt - fantastic story (just reading it for first time in 08/2013). Quite like the dress Seiko your grandfather had, looks fantatsic on the strap you selected and a great family heirloom to pass onto future Dancematt generations !
Small collection of timepieces that I enjoy

seeing stories like this and the ones in the ones in the "sentimental" thread make me wish there was a horological tradition in my family. i have the two beat up pocket watches and will some day get my grandfather's retirement watch, but nobody in my family is really into watches at all (don't think my grandfather was, but he got the nice omega at retirement).
the "g" is for Greg...

That's the plan :) Guess i'll have to send this one off too, Great grandpa/ great grandmothers (more probable) old trench style 1910-1925 (guessing), give it some new life for its impending 100th birthday:
