An excellent post scooter and a nice outcome. A sub from the days before they lost their way. Would this be an early 90s model?
I miss all the great things that may never be.

I can completely share the sentiment of buying a watch that you had coveted only to be disappointed, and the Rolex is an absolute beauty.
However, I had never really appreciated JLC and the Reverso style (as clearly I should have) until I saw your watch. Shame you didn't get on with it, but glad it all worked out in the end, and thanks very much for opening my eyes to yet another area of this wonderful fascination we share.

Tough luck, scooter.

I had thought that your recent posts have sounded a bit off (kind of detached, IMO).

Hopefully, you now feel lighter having offloaded the JLC, even if your pockets are also lighter by quite a bit!

As I said in your JLC thread, the dial design for this model of Reverso is not really my cup of tea.

However, I have seen a more standard Reverso up close on my colleague's wrist - ladies' gold case, white face, black strap - and it's very nice. I think if you ever go for a JLC again (never say never, right??!!) , the clean and simple classic model would probably be a safer and happier bet. And no worries about scratching the leather strap!

Thanks to each and everyone of you for your comments, much appreciated!

@ dancematt

It's a 2000 model, a good year. I met my wife in November 2000.

@ asqwerth

I agree wholeheartedly with your remark about the Classic model. I should have bought that one at the time. Sadly I don't think my finances will ever again run to another luxury watch.

I will however try and return to the scooter of old now that I am a happy bunny again.

Sorry to hear about the disappointment with your grail. :( Can't really say more than others have already said. But, I'm also happy for you for having got your love for watches back. And that Rolex ain't half bad! ;)

This watch hobby is a personal journey and we all make mistakes along the way. A no-date sub is a fantastic watch and one I aspire to own one day.

Sorry to hear you didn't get on with the reverso scooter, but despite the financial kick in the goolies I think you have got yourself a lovely replacement for it. You can't beat having a non date sub in the collection somewhere 8)

I hope you keep you enthusiasm with the sub on your wrist.

All the best

Sorry to hear of your woes scooter but glad there was a happy ending. There are some pretty decent chaps and chapesses on here and it is good to known they can come to your aid when needed. Enjoy your Rolex.

Followed your NCWOTD post to this and, although the opening about your JLC is a bit depressive and I share immensely your reluctance to wear it (to avoid scratches), the no-date sub's resurrection of your love in watches draws the tale to a happy ending and that's all it matters.

It is true that almost 90% of the watches on sale will lose at least 50% of its value selling on, but you could at least be very proud to have joined the "no pain, no gain" club and survived the ordeal.

I think a vintage manual winding classic reverso is the most practical for daily wear, in fact if I find the right deal, I would add one of those in addition to the Grand GMT, but that's a fantasy to materialize in my dream only.

Thanks for sharing a very frank heart on the sleeve story. I am so glad you have your enthusiasm back. Your Rolex is a watch to both love and to wear.
