A new Omega Planet Ocean

Post by nbg »

Optimistically priced.

Words fail me!

Anyone looking to buy one?

And to think that some folk think Rolex are overpriced. :)

For disclosure: I am certainly not anti Omega. My favourite dive watch is an Omega and they also make one of my favourite Chronographs.

Just looking at other ceramic Planet Ocean models, on a like for like basis…
F02728A1-82F1-4F0A-B32F-A46FA77976BA.png
Bargain!

Although it uses a different type of ceramic for the case.

A variation of a slogan often used by a well known UK food retailer comes to mind, as regards the new release… :)

“This is not just an ordinary ceramic case. This is an Omega special ceramic case.”

The existing ones were just described as “ceramic” (presumably Zircon ceramic?). The new almost twice the price one as “silicon nitride ceramic”, indicated by Omega to be much lighter.

No, it'll just be the money in your wallet that's floating away if you purchase these.

Just when it might be a thought that the watch price madness was easing....

Omega needs to take a deep good look at itself.

We’re charging more because - silicon nitride ceramic

V

We’re charging more because - repositioning ourself in the market abruptly, shamelessly, without a care for who our customers are, and without worrying whether they can follow us or not (we’re off to fish in richer fields…)

It might help if a little further reading is undertaken.

It's not an everyday PO, notwithstanding the fact the price is still very challenging, I am sure there will be a market for it. Although I doubt they will be pumping these out in their 1000's.

Just Omega doing what Omega does, pushing out new technology. I am sure some of these specs will filter into other models in due course.

Machining Titanium to that precision is very expensive. I am not sure that the trade offs are worth it from an engineering standpoint. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you always should.
