A great morning.

Post by downer »

I am a lucky guy...

Went shopping this morning. Saw one of my grails at a price that I'm unlikely to see again... Decided to get it (even though I feel guilty as hell), and replenish the building society when the bonus arrives. :)

Can't say I'd have a red leather box as a Grail item? Still, each to their own........

Very nice Richard

You'd better post another teaser photo for the people who haven't worked out what it is yet

Ok. The pictures are now uploaded to photobucket, so here goes.

I have been keeping an eye on a particular Omega AD in Chester over the past 6 months or so. There are at least four AD's in the main street of Chester, which for a town of around 80,000 population, is quite a lot.

Knowing Omega's strategy to go upmarket (which means getting more money for each watch they sell), it seemed unlikely that they would continue with all the AD's, because more AD's means more competition, which inevitably leads to discounting..

And so, it has finally happened. This AD is losing the Omega dealership and consequently, is selling off the stock at a good reduction.

They had several watches I like, but the main one I have been after for a while is the Aqua Terra with the in-house 8500 co-axial chronometer movement.

Caliber: Omega 8500

Self-winding movemet with Co-Axial Escapement for greater precision stability and durability.
Free sprung-balance.
2 barrels mounted in series
Automatic winding in both directions to reduce winding time.
Visible bridges and the oscillating mass are decorated with exclusive Geneva waves in arabesque.
Power reserve: 60 hours

The watch is part of the Seamaster series, so the case is very similar (if not identical) to my Planet Ocean. This one though, is more formal, having no diver bezel. The WR is 150m, and the case is sized at 41.5mm. The bracelet has a hidden deployment and screw-in links.

The case has a display back, and the movement is very nicely decorated. The crystal is slightly domed and has AR on both sides. The dial colour on this one is described as Teak opaline silver.

Of course this watch is a total indulgence, and I recognise that I am very fortunate. :)

Here's a few pictures...
