A little update about a big update...

I've just about finished work on the v1.9 update, so hope to get it out to those of you on the beta testing list this week.

A wee range of additions this time:
  • CSV Extracts as mentioned above
  • Calendar view at a watch level - so you can review/edit the calendar for a single watch
  • The option of a second daily reminder, for those that like to switch watches when they finish their work day (or similar)
  • My favourite - new per watch graphs! See breakdowns of your watches by month and day!
The last two are the first updates I've added as 'pro only' features - I think the app is getting to the point now where its actually pretty good (I'm pretty proud of it anyway!) and so thinking of trying to add some little extras to make an upgrade to 'WristCheck Pro' worthwhile, whilst keeping a generous set of core features that make the app useful for everyone.

I'm hoping the CSV extracts encourage people to do their own analysis on the data - seeing graphs in the end of year threads inspired me to build the app in the first place, so hoping it'll enable people to do their own interesting analysis on what they've been tracking :)

The per-watch calendar is pretty simple - you can add and remove dates with a long press, but it's still a single record at a time. Currently trying to think of options to allow bulk dates to be entered.

Here's a wee preview of the watch graphs - interesting to see I wear my Spirit most on Fridays and least on Saturdays!

Would wears by month be better presented using the months on the X axis and wear count being the Y?

Three letter abbreviations of each month, vertical bar with the number label? You could then even have two bars comparing this year and last year...

(An idea stolen from my Daikin hear pump app!)

Definitely worth giving it a go! At the moment it just adds everything together, but I like the idea of separating out the years.

I've submitted these builds for approval (to then get out for beta testing) but I'll give both options a go and see how they look - I can probably also build a toggle to switch views (at the moment there's a toggle between bar charts and doughnut charts, but I like the idea of expanding that!) thank you!

I’ve just been trying the backup and restore function to replicate my config from my iPhone to my iPad via an iCloud folder. The database and watch images backup fine and the subsequent database restore also works fine.

However, there is no restore function for the images as such, which just seems like an export of a series of jpg’s. Therefore to recover the images I have to add these as ‘new’ images to the recovered watch collection. The dialogue for this only allows me to do this from the Photo Album, but not from an external location such as the iCloud Drive where they’re stored. I know I could probably import them into Photos but it would be nice if the add image dialogue allowed for an external location to be used.

Ah, I didn't realise that it didn't let you browse to a different location on iOS - I'll see if there's an option to update that.

I’m not sure if this is me being daft, it probably is, but I can’t see how to retrospectively add wears in the new calendar view.

I used to click the calendar symbol on each watch, click the unlock button, and I could add them in every few days. Has this been disabled and do I have to update every day now?

@iain When in calendar view long press on the day you want to add the wear. A dialog will pop up to let you add it.

Hi @iain - as Rich says, a long press will bring up the option (and the help text if you click the wee question mark in the corner should say this, but I don't think that button is too obvious!) but this is good feedback... clearly there are some improvements I can make to usability here!

The next step for the calendar is, I think, to add the ability to add multiple dates to a watch at once, so I'll probably add a button to the page similar to the 'all watches' calendar to make it all a bit more obvious and user friendly and allow entries to be added via a date picker again.

Also planning to prototype a time-setting feature - I always use the time.is website to set my watches, but I find it can be a bit janky on mobile for some reason, and I (perhaps naively) think it should be easy enough to implement something similar.

@Stif if you are going to add the option to add multiple dates, could you make it possible to add dates in the future?

When I went away last year for three weeks I only took one watch. I couldn’t add my wears before I went so I could forget about this while on holiday. I had to remember to do it when I got back.

I sure could - at present I actively block future dates, but I think it'd be relatively easy to replace that with an "are you sure" message.

So here's an update out of the blue... it turns out that the name 'Wristcheck' is trademarked, and the owners of said mark have asked me to rename my app

In fairness to them, they've been nice about it and asked that I get the iOS app updated first - not a massive issue, as I think changing the name is relatively simple, and I've got a pretty small userbase... the biggest question is, what the heck do I call it now!

I asked Google's Gemini AI and it's given me loads of suggestions, I kinda like these few but none jump out at me the same way:

TimeStack
WristStats
WatchMetrics
WristTrack

I think I'm erring towards 'WristTrack' (I think keeping the name similar-ish makes sense, to keep it in a similar place in current users app lists... wonder if anyone has any other suggestions though?

^^^ Those all sound pretty good to me. I also agree that keeping the name as close as possible is the way to go.

I had put off installing the update until now. Still trying to get used to the new interface.

If not for the posts above, I wouldn't have known how to remove an entry from the calendar. As it is, you can't do it from the main calendar view; you have to enter the page of the watch in question, and remove it from there.

Even though you can ADD an entry from the main calendar.
