Wimbledon 2022 Thread
Can we have a Wimbledon thread please.
I'll start by saying Serena must be really cheesed off that Francisco Cerundulo is fighting back against Nadal. Go on Francisco. Take him out!. What an amazing point just now to give 3 break points.
And after a bunch of deuces, he got the break.

Re: Wimbledon 2022 Thread
Since you started it JAFO...
I thought it was amazing that a lot of the papers, including the broad sheets, chose to make quite a point of the fact that Emma Raducanu played her opening match wearing £30k of jewellery. There seems to be an awful lot of focus on her sponsorship deals after her US Open victory. Has the cash clouded her focus seems to be the question. Nadal seems to comfortably slip under the radar when he takes to the court in his £750k Richard Mille. It seems all things in tennis are not equal even if the winner's cheques are. And that's £2.2 mill this year btw.

Well I think for the most part women's tennis is a completely different sport to men's tennis.strapline wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:01 pm Since you started it JAFO...

Re: Wimbledon 2022 Thread
I don't pay my BBC tv licence to have both BBC 1 and BBC 2 full of f***ing tennis all day every day for the next 2 weeks. It should be shown on some obscure channel for all the saddos who want to watch 2 people or 4 if it's doubles hitting a ball over a net for hours on end.
Rant over.

I was about to head over to curmudgeons corner to express my views on the subject, but you have beat me to it. Well played Harmony Tan. Tremendous victory over Serena Williams, pipping her in the final set tie-break.

Re: Wimbledon 2022 Thread
I recall a thread here after her US open win last year where we were trying to guess at which watch company she’d choose for a sponsorship.strapline wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:01 pm

A quick google search shows quite a few sponsors… Nike, British Airways, Evian, Dior, Tiffany's, Vodafone, Porsche. Some fine time pieces to choose from, especially from Dior!

Re: Wimbledon 2022 Thread
I agree that perhaps taking over both channels is a bit much..but from what I've seen, when they are overlapping it's only for a few hours in the afternoon...when, let's be honest, BBC2 isn't exactly must see tv.malvern_man wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 10:37 pm I don't pay my BBC tv licence to have both BBC 1 and BBC 2 full of f***ing tennis all day every day for the next 2 weeks. But to call people saddos for watching tennis. Bit harsh.

Patience, patience my man. It all wraps in under two weeks now. You waited over two years for a watch, I know you can tough this out.malvern_man wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 10:37 pm I don't pay my BBC tv licence to have both BBC 1 and BBC 2 full of f***ing tennis all day every day for the next 2 weeks. May I suggest binge watching 'Selling Sunset' on Netflix, it should ease the pain.

It's a shame to be missing "Homes Under The Hammer", "Bargain Hunt", "Escape to the Country" and all those other top programmes purely because Wimbledon is on.

Garcia ranked 55th at Wimbledon this year in top gear today dismissing Raducanu pretty comprehensively.
When are we getting more tantrums from Nick Kyrgios. He's a bit of a wag isn't he.

Re: Wimbledon 2022 Thread
Oh I couldn’t agree more!

Last time I switched my television set on in the afternoon, it was to watch a rugby match. They have two television sets high up in the cardio room at the gym, and they are always showing that sort of tedious rubbish when I’m on a rowing machine or bike! Fortunately they leave the sound off and I listen to music. I’m very good at ignoring it.

^^^^ I popped into a local Gym recently to have a look around, to see if it merited changing from my current Gym.
Mid afternoon on a Friday and they had Sky Sports coverage of Test Match Cricket on several TVs in easy view of the exercise machines.
