What's on YOUR wrist today?

Post by peterh »

Another forum that I once frequented had regular threads that challenged readers to post what watch they were wearing today (usually on Friday if my memory serves me well). This showed some unique watches and sparked off some great discussions.

Yesterday, it was our granddaughter's first birthday, which had me bring out the Celebration Watch:

which has, since this picture was taken, been embellished by a gold bracelet.

For today, I'm not sure yet. We're both having a day off... I may be giving this a spin:

or it may be the Malvern Automatic that I so rudely dismissed for the duration of our camping holiday, I'm not sure yet.

Crikes, that's a beauty - very particular indeed. Not for every other day, that's for sure.
Is it as big as it looks on the picture, or is that the narrow case that does it?

That is the narrow case, it is 'only' 38.3 mm, but it looks larger, also on the wrist.

The Tangomat is a new model of Nomos, it is Nomos' first watch with manufacture-calibre, the movement is also a joy to look at:

For me, it turned out to be the Seiko wannabe diver in my picture above, with the 7s36 movement.

While it's amazing how much watch this is for the money (I mean, you DO get an automatic movement under a very well-made, fairly detailed dial, in a very well-made case with a very well-made bracelet, for something like 100 euro), it's still functionally my worst watch. Today, it gained almost 10 seconds in a 15 hour period, and I've seen it do worse.

But it didn't deserve to be left in a drawer for over a year, so I promised it a bit more daylight... starting today.

Wore the 7T32. Recent mods: Had a black strap w/ white stitching but wanted red. Introduce stitching to red permanent marker. Added strap but didn't like the open spaces at the lugs. Trim strap so I can add in the bracelet ends. I like it, but I'm looking into a strap w/ real red stitching.

A 1973 Seiko Bell-Matic! (my 21st birthday present from my father!). Apologies for no pictures but I'm away on business and have no easy access to make and post photo. Will do in future if anyone interested in this classic piece of 1970's Japanese watchmaking!

*grin*

There ARE Pontiacs that go well. If they go well in anything else than a straight line, they're definitely not cars. They might be watches ;)

This does remind me of a TV watch advertisement of a long time ago.

The storyboard:
A young woman and a young man, who obviously meet for the first time, sit opposite each other in a rather posh restaurant. Soft, romantic piano music in the background.
Woman (pointing at the man's Pontiac):That is a beautiful watch you're wearing.
Man: Yes, it was a present from my father. I like it a lot.
Woman (warm voice): Mmmm... you must be very attached to it. Do you wear it always?
Man (a bit shyish, but apparently pleased by her appreciation): I only take it off when I go to bed.
At that point, the woman takes the man's left hand, pulls it towards her over the table, and starts to "peel off" the watch in a very meaningful way.
The man is lost for words -- and for breath, for that matter-- for a second, and then raises his hand, turns his head and says "Waiter?... check, please?..."

:mg:

This is freakin' odd.
I've stuck to this watch over the weekend - and ever since Sat Sep 01, 12:22 am, which is almost 48 hours ago now, it's been keeping effin' perfect time, remaining within a second of my benchmark - a radio-controlled Casio.
Is this 100 euro watch trying to tell me that it deserves a second chance?
