What do you think?
What would you think if the CWF did something like this?
Patron Program
I can understand the plus and minus of all this, especially related to a Sales Corner, but what would members think of this arrangement.
I might add that there are no current plans for something like this...I just think it might be an interesting discussion.

Re: What do you think?
The modifications to the program are just about to take effect. Time will tell. It's not a terribly active forum as it is, and I'm afraid the changes may curtail activity even further.Kip wrote:What has been membership reaction in general?Mr Rick wrote:I'm a moderator over there and I don't like it.![]()

In comparison to others, this forum is a breath of fresh air. I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Re: What do you think?
I understand that there are expenses involved in running this forum and I am enjoying this wonderful place for free, so, as long as the levels of subscription are modest, the payment easy and the basic forum functions are free (so it didn’t discourage new members) I wouldn’t mind it.
… but then, I have never bought or sold a watch here, have no intention of changing my name, don’t mind not having a signature, wouldn’t miss PMs or want a “Watch Box”.
A “Patron Members Forum” that you pay for just feels wrong. To me it is the wrong type of elitism.
I’d pay a few pennies to keep this fellow though...

… and might even be willing to chip in to subsidise village’s booby avatars.
BUT
I worry that lots of people wouldn't want to make the jump from the freebie functions to the enhanced pay-per-whatever and newer members would fade away rather than spend money to "progress"... and that loss of existing free functions (when so much on the interweb is free) would create unnecessary resentment amongst the existing membership.
On the other hand, if the alternative were the disappearance of the forum or sponsorship, I'm all for it.
I have, of course, personalised the whole thing and applied it to this forum, which is not fair to the spirit of Kip's rather general question, but it is what I care about.
Yours sincerely,
The Fencesitter-in-Chief
Kip, have you just put this up having seen the CHR. WARD thread win the thread of 2011? You want the 2012 title don't you? Admit it!

Re: What do you think?
This has nothing to do with the forum needing funding (which it does not currently). This forum is completely supported by Hans. Although there is nothing that says that this would not change someday.JAG wrote:If it is funding that the forum needs then surly a small donation off each of us can keep this place ticking over !
This is only about what reactions would be if we were to implemet a so called "Patron Program", similar to the link in my OP, and to discuss the good and bad of the idea.
What would we gain as a forum overall...what would we lose....what could the forum offer membership in exchange for such a program.
This is purely hypothetical.

I think that would be fair. How about a scheme based on the number of CWs owned.JAG wrote:If it is funding that the forum needs then surly a small donation off each of us can keep this place ticking over !
