It’s fantastic! He’s essentially connecting various stages in world history to drinks that played a significant role in that period: beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca-Cola. It’s got enough legitimate history to not be fluff but not so much as to be academic. Highly recommend!

You made me realise I bought this book a while ago on my kindle and haven’t got around to reading it, I totally forgot!!

I’m on holiday at the moment so have plenty of time.

It’s a perfect holiday read. Get to it and let me know what you think. This is a great book club book.

Sounds so interesting, I’ve just ordered a copy from eBay.

Is anyone familiar with this book - Pastoral Song: A Farmer’s Journey by James Rebanks. I just read this linked article and find this really intriguing in a number of ways. He’s an English farmer describing the generational transformation of how his family has farmed their land. He starts with the traditions he learned from his grandfather, the “progress” introduced by his father, and his efforts to return to more traditional practices. I think I’m going to pick it up.

I read most books on Kindle these days, so no nice photos of a book.

Currently reading "Legionnaire" by Simon Murray. Being ex-Army myself, some of it is familiar but it's fair to say that everything is way more extreme than anything I personally experienced. His life following military service is pretty amazing too.

Just finished this; what an interesting character. Have grown to really love his music. Has been described as ‘music to cut your wrists by’, which I think is a terrible disservice. I even thought about using one of his more famous lyrics for my signature, ‘I ache in the places where I used to play.’

*apologies for the sideways picture.
